I'm 21 and this is my first time leaving as well.
I can cook so if you need a good meal you can come and I'll cook for you.

Part of me is a little scared but the rest of me is SO excited that I'll get to experience something completely new. You'll be living with other girls that are in the same boat as you so it'll be fantastic. It's a learning experience just remember that.

    Hey,

I don't think you have anything to worry about! I'm pretty sure everyones guna be a bit nervous to begin with. This will be my first real time away from home as well.

I have been to the states once by myself, I went over to NYC to audition for Juilliard and it was pretty damn scary but once i had gotten settled in i was fine. Plus your going to have everyone around you thats in the same situation and im pretty sure we'll all be making so many friends, doing lots of work and lots of play that we won't even get a moment to THINK about even being homesick in the slightest.

hey im in the same boat as you...but i just think there is no better place to be away from home for the first time than Disney World...everyone takes care of each other...and everyone has a good attitude towards things...but it made me feel better to see someone else show that they're nervous as well...so thank you haha

I'm also in the same situation as you. I'm really looking forward to the new experience though, and its the only way I'm going to become independant. I'm learning a few nice recipes before I go, and going to buy a Disney recipe book when I get there. At least we're living with people who are going through the same thing and we can all be there for each other when we get home sick. xx

That's so right! There's always someone to talk to or that can help you with anything! We even had a "mom" away from home in our pavilion ;D

Last summer I spent my first long time away from home 5 months working at a resort. I was only a two hour drive away, but its still not easy all the time. But just keep busy and you'll be so busy working the time will fly by! I'm a little nervous too since this is the farthest and longest I've been away but almost all of us are in the same boat so we can support each other!

I've been away from home a few times but everytime it's just as hard. I can't say it gets easier whenever you leave. You just need to know that your parents and friends are a phone call away and there are lots of people going through the same thing. Trust me the first time I went away I didn't know how to cook or even look after myself for that matter, but you get through it. My advice is ask your roomates to help you learn how to cook or like I did figure out which type of ramen noodles you like and learn how to master the precious art of boiling water.

Just remember you'll be fine and you'll never be alone.

    heya,
It's so good to know that other people are worried about missing their home! I went away to uni 3 years ago and the first few months were quite challenging as I missed my family sooooo much but the independence i gained through having to fend for myself was so valuable. Now it feels weird being at home over the whole summer and having my mum do my laundry and cook for me!! its great!! : ) but i cant wait to start this new adventure and if everyones parents are like mine they'll be looking for any excuse to come and visit!!

So true! The day I said i'd got in my Dad started looking at flights for November. I've got friends and family coming out to visit every few months whilst out there so i'm hoping that helps.

I've lived away from home quite a lot since I was 16 and I don't worry about fending for myself... i'm mainly worried about the fact that we're 9 hours and a lot of money away should anything happen. There's no just popping on a train or getting a coach for £10. And it's 12 whole months without seeing friends and family... 12 months! I've always popped home for a day or two every few months when living away, but there's just no way of doing that. Plus I have a 5 year old brother and i'm going to miss a whole year of him growing up and learning new things. I think that's going to be the hardest part.

hehe i know what you mean elle, my mum has already gone insane planning all the times she's goign to visit!! My sister is currently doing the program and my family and i have totally taken advantage this year as have all her friends. I mean its not as if its a hardship for people to visit us as its such a wonderful place to go on holiday!! : ) and at least we'll have each other as like a weird surrogate family... however cheesy that may sound!! haha
I understand about your brother though, but at least when he comes to visit you can show him you work in one of the most magical places in the world!! It will be hard as i used to do the same and always visited hoem for a few days at a time but i'm sure we'll be more than fine!!
When do you go?? Im 9th Sept and cant wait! where abouts you from?

Char I leave on the 23rd Sept! I'm going from London as i'm here more than Manchester! So a few weeks after you! I'm still really excited and everything but at the moment, all I think about is my brother! My mum's scared of flying and I doubt she'll let anyone else bring him over to visit... a whole year for a five year old is like ten years to us though! lol I'll barely recognise him when I get back!

But yeah, we'll have our Disney family! Which will be the perfect substitute! I can't wait to meet everyone and start looking after everyone! (I used to be a nurse, lol)

aww dont worry elle i'm sure it'll all be worth it and that even if he can't come and visit you can send him pictures and gift pakages!! I used to live for my sisters gifts as im such a shopoholic and looooove shopping over there!! Really glad you're there just after me!! sounds like we gonna have an amazing year!! And always useful to have a nurse around... even if it is to help self inflicted illness!! hehe x x x

ha its kinda cute to see that were all a bunch of family people. I lived on an island across from my town, and it was hard to get back to see family. That being said.. ive lived away from home for over 2 years, and i barely see my parents now that im back in thier house because of school work and having a life. This is going to be exciting.

can we have "i miss home" sessions?

I say that "I miss home sessions" should be a day out in the park to remind us why we're there! hehe
