I get all my details tomorrow, however I emailed alex earlier this week to get the basics and she told me that I will be leaving 20th September and working in food and bev.

While I'm really glad to be going to WDW, I'm a little confused as to why I got f&b. I have zero experience and everytime they asked I said I'd be willing to try other things but would prefer merch. I have experience in merch, I mentioned specifically how ethusiastic I was about things like kidcot. To be honest I didn't really want food, but didn't want to say that in ther interview as it would make me seem really inflexible, but I did keep on at how given the choice I would prefer merch.

Why the hell am I in f&b?

Also, if anyone here is currently in food and bev, what jobs are their in it (aside from servers of course).

I don't want to sound like I'm whining, especially given as a lot of people would love to be in my position right now!

The main reason is that 90% of the jobs available are F&B. Disney don't necessarily recruit people on their work experience, as you get all the training you need once you are there. People say the work is only 20% of the whole experience, so don't worry wbout it too much. F&B people will be waitressing/pulling pints/greeting customers etc..
People say there are positives and negitives to both jobs, F&B has more people and better money once u moved to a tipped position, Merch generally isn't as tiring, and the shifts can be nicer times. I've heard the work can get boring, and tiring no matter what you do. If you really feel F&B will get you down, and are worried about working in restaurants for a year then all I can suggest is maybe you should re-think doing the program, or re-applying to do merch? because you cannot switch jobs during the whole year. I'm sure the 'maybe' people would be grateful.
I'm sure you'll love working amoung friends in the happiest place on earth, whatever you do, so don't worry too much hun.

Most people in general don't get what they want. I was lucky. But I know someone that wanted hospitality, but they're doing F&B in the magic kingdom.
I agree with marsha, though. If you don't want to work in restaurants, then re-think the program.

    yeah marsha is correct.

i mean if u really didnt want F&B u should've made it clear, as people who say they 'aren't bothered' are more likely to get f&b due to the bigger percentage of jobs!! it doesnt matter on experience to be fair, i mean ive worked in shops/supermarkets/theme park and never worked with food!

and yeah the job is one thing, u start on outdoor carts and greeting people, talkin about native food/traditions

ive never done f&b, but im doin it come june, i was originally gona chose merch but in the end i didn't mind!! u get tips where as merch dont so they can be a plus!

but yeah if u really don't wana do it, theres not much u can do about it now

I agree with the other guys here, if you really don't wanna do F+B then reapply for merch and let one of the others have a chance.

I was happy to do whatever they would offer me tho, just for the amazing chance to work there, I'm currently a manager at tesco and have great experience in customer service but started at tesco as a butcher and fishmonger so said in my interview I had done training for food hygiene and had training in customer service stuff. So was open to what I wanted to do, if I didn't want to do a particular job role I'd have told them but it didn't bother me! neway u get tipped eventually in F+B and you'll be working at the happiest place on earth which should blow any doubts in your mind away! ;D

I think I should make this clearer, I do not want to quit the program! I am willing to do whatever job they want to give me, I was just saying that I was confused as to why I was in f&b, as it was completely unexpected given my preferences and background so I was a little shocked.

I realise a lot of the maybe's would love for me to rethink and give them a chance but I'm afraid that's not going to happen, I gave up doing a post-grad in order to even apply to disney, I'm not about to give it up jut because something unexpected happened.

Don't worry about it, if you are good at your job you could take home $1000 a week. I know it's not about the money but you will have a much better time if you have got more. Loads more travelling.

You'll have a great time Zanitta. And just think of how much more money you'll make!
Michelle had no f and b experience and shes doing f and b starting today!

I had experience in f and b and merch... but i had hrc as my first followed by merch then f and b... I got my second choice but now a few months later i think i prefer it to my first cos i'll meet more people andwont be stuck in one place.
Fingers crossed in a few months you'll feel the same way about f and b.

I'm also going for f&b. It was my first choice though. All of my experience is in merch.... at the Disney Store nonetheless... for more than 7 yrs.

Someone once told me that one of the reasons they put people into f&b with no experience is because there are 2 ways to do things, a) the disney way and b) they way the rest of the f&b industry does things. It's easier to teach someone new skills than to break old habits. I don't know how reliable that is, but it makes a little sense.

It's gonna be fun, no matter what!!!

I agree with Sandra. I've heard that saying but for other companies. I think it's just easier to train the person how they want you trained. I agree, i will gladly do whatever they want, f&b or merch, attractions, or even kidcot.

But, you'll be fine. They must have loved you and your personality. Julie mentioned to us that that's the biggest part of the job.

Just as everyone has said - 90% of the jobs are in F&B. I would have done either (which I told them) but would have preferred merch. Just lucky I guess :)
