    Hey congratulations
Basically you'll be starting off in a non-tipped position. You either work podium, chippie or beer cart.
Chippie- working in a fish and chip hut- you either work on the till or you pour drinks and get the food for the till person (its already cooked for you)
Podium- either greeter or seater. greeter takes the party details, seaters take the parties to their tables. Some also get trained as assigner- basically deciding where to put each party.
Beer cart- outside cart that sells beers and cider and soft drinks

Then you can be moved into a tipped position- either serving or in the bar.
F&B is great- loads of people, possibility of being tipped, and I think I would have got really bored in merch- i like to always be doing something, and theres usually something you can be doing in f&b!

Do you think we'll get better tips, if we show some skin? That is, should we make to a tipped position...

    Chase:

The Canadian F&B costume you were when you are in a tipped position shows NO skin, except your hands and the neck up. I likened it to a snow suit the first time I wore it as I had been in the breezy lumberjack costume for two months! (Shorts and rolled up sleeves :) )

So if you show some skin it means there is a whole in the costume and the managers will send you to costuming to get something new to wear :p

Between this and wanting to alter your costume you may be in for a rough year ;)

It means theres too many pics and big files on the boards already, so theres no space for any more. I'll have a look tonight to see if theres any threads I can delete to try and make more space.

    Hey!
Do you make a LOT of money in tips? I know it is rude to ask :( but I did the summer program and worked in table service in MGM and the servers made amazing tips there! like 2-300 a night! I am deciding if I want to do the IP but seating is not what I want to do for a whole year! could anyone let me know?

Yeah, you do make good money in tips!

Canadians make more than us brits simply cos their food is more expensive than ours so they have higher check avaerages!! No fair!!

if you are in F&B in the UK will you automatically get moved up to a tip making job after so long?

@ Sara - you won't be seating for the whole year! The only two positions in the restaurant that are tipped are servering and food running (bringing the main courses to the guests). There are other positions: popcorn/beer cart, stocking and greeting. Makes for a bit of variety otherwise you'd eventually crack ;) F&B also gives you the opportunity to do some other things, such as the Food & Wine Festival!

@ nat - u are watched by the management from the day u start work - they watch for how u interact with guest and cast members and how willing you are to do things - if u phone in sick that will go against u etc and if u offer to stay on at work obviusly that will go in your favour - basically u have to earn the right to go into service - there is no guarantee that u will def go in - most ppl do some people dont want to so its jus individual preference - dont worry about you will be fine ;D

@ meerim - the norwegian restaurant is one of the most busy simply because it is a charater dining restaurant!! It is the princess story book dining so u have cinderella and belle etc there - it is a buffet restaurant serving norwegin food - my norwegian roommate says its pretty much the same u dont strt off i service u earn ot and after a certain amount of time u get put in!

    ;D
