For any Canadian trying to get on Disney Cruise for F and B,

It turns out that Disney does not like to hire Canadians for F and B on the cruise line!! Tracey actually told me this yesterday from Cast-a-way. I guess past Canadians just havent worked out well, so they try to aviod us if possible! So anyone trying...maybe we should try something else!

    Dear Angela,
at least Tracey talked to you. They won't even call me or e-mail me back to inform me. Whatever, I do have a good new for you; canadianchick gave me a very good web site which is www.crewbar.net Go check it out. I decided to sent my resume to a few cruise lines since I don't think I'll get hired by DCL.

And by the way, I am the frenchie that worked with you in 2002-2003...
    Good luck Angela, Kathrine.

Katherine-have you filled out the "on-line" application on the cast-a-way website? I filled that out and within an hour they called me!

Oh my god, you are so lucky to have an interview! Will it be in Toronto? And did you apply for food and beverage or a different job?
I did apply on line at least 2 times maybe even 3 times. I'll do it again but I hope they won't think that I'm crazy.

Hope to see you at the interviews, otherwise, good luck Angela.

When I worked on the Wonder, we started out with at least 15 Canucks in Dining Room. I was the second-last to leave...after 1.5 contracts...so there is plenty of evidence to support DCL's decision.

We saw plenty of people who had worked shoreside in F&B for years ("I worked at Jack Astors for 10 years!"), and while they may make supa-servers on land, the sea experience is too different for most. The number of guests coupled with the pacing and quality of service is tricky to manage at times. Add the 'fixing' and 'cowboying' that goes on in the galleys, and it can become very stressful very quickly! That's not to say that many people do very well (there are folks on the ships, Canadians, who have been there pretty much since the start!) and Canadians, along with other Commonwealth folks, move up into management faster than people from most other countries (other than the Swedes perhaps). But fair warning to anyone considering working F&B on the ships...it's NOT WDW at sea...not even close.

But the money is better if you don't blow it all at Atlantis or Drop Off...;)

    Andy,
I have a question for you !! looks like you know how it is to work F & B in WDW and on the Disney ships !! So tell me about it !
I am a bit scared about that, I've worked in F & B in Epcot, and I know it's a lot harder on the cruise, i am scared on how I 'll handle that onboard !! I am leaving very soon now, and i try to talk to people who've been working at both places !! To know what they think
Thanks for telling me !!! ;)

    Hey Ang

I know what you mean, I have been trying to just get an interview for a F&B job on the cruise line since I left the IP program. i wish there was a way around castaway. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing now, they just don't want to hear about it. If anyone has any other ways to get hired for Disney cruise F&B it would be a great help.

    Mike,

I know they will hire Canadians once and a while...but I think it helps if you have worked on a cruise line before...
That way they know that you can handle the crew life.

Would you consider working for another cruise line? or just Disney?

    Hey Mike,

I was hired as a Corporate Trainer.
So remember all those courses we had to take when we were 1st hired at Disney? I will be teaching those kind of classes (guest service, safety, english...etc) I am sure you are well more then enough qualified for that position as you did ESL? no?
Only thing...if you are looking to go party crazy and wild, like I am sure you want to, this position isnt for ya, as they say you need to act resposible... :) But if you just want the experience it is something to look into.

Do you just want to do F and B??? I think it is pretty easy to get on doing merch/youth coun. etc....

    Good luck!
    Ang
