Sorry if this has been covered before.

Basically, I applied for the CRP in January and was rejected due to not having enough experience in hospitality, tourism and leisure. I'll be finishing my A levels in June, and will be looking for a full time job.
Going to Disney is something I am desperate to do, but my lack of experience is obviously holding me back. So, for the people who have been successful in their application, what kind of jobs have you had previous to heading out to WDW?

In short, what sort of jobs should I apply for in order to make my dream a reality?

I've worked in a whole lot of customer service roles.
    I've volunteered a bunch.
But nothing that really stands out as much as my personality.
I think as long as you have a outgoing personality and have a good mix of customer service jobs you shouldn't be to bad.

If you'd like to see my resume I can certainly send it along if it would be any help.

I don't get it when they say that to people... Infact it really gets me down :( Aren't Disney suposed to hire people without much experience so that they can train them in the Disney way? :-\

My ex was told he didn't have enough experience so when he asked what experience he needed they said retail and/or food and beverage.

Hannahike - That's what I thought. But I've had experience in a range of roles, I'm currently working for Tesco (UK supermarket), and have had jobs in fashion retail etc.
Disney_Geek - Yeah, that's true. But I suppose it'd be easier for them to train people if they've already got some experience in that particular field.

Bleghhh, the only thing I can think of doing and working would be restaurant work maybeee...?

Then I have no idea why they have said that to you.

When they have thousands upon thousands of people competing for very limited places, there has to be a way to cut down the list, and I suppose experience is one of those factors they take into account.

I've worked in the Disney Store for 2 years so I think that helped. I've only ever had Merch experience, but they gave me a food and beverage role.

Taking all of that into account, do you think it'd be worth applying as soon as it opens in July? I suppose I applied quite late compared to most.

I haven't got that much experience. Been working in my local pub for the last 3 months and spent 9 months in a bar in Spain back in 2005. But between the two, I've been working for various investment banks in London. Bit of a change in work you could say!

I think any job where your working a lot with customers and people helps...im coming out of highschool and i did my coop last at a hotel and my job at a historic site where im constantly talking with people and answering questions helped too. But i know people who got hired with minimal experience but yea it's deffinitly one of the ways they narrow it down.

I really dont understand what theyr afta half th time, cz it seems like quite a few ppl with plenty of relavant work experience never get so far as a phone interview! Im just finishing a degree in Cultural Studies, which ud think they wud hav liked applyin 2 th Cultural Rep programme! And have retail experience in 4 shops & was applyin 2 Merch, but I got rejected th first time. Second time I applied, wen nothing had been added 2 my CV, I got in. Th only 1 thing that I did differently th 2nd time was put f&b down as my first choice, wen Id put merch th 1st time. I figured since I had no experience in that area then they wudnt want me, but I spoke 2 Jason at Yummy & he said that theyr really keen to take on ppl who havnt got previous experience in th area that theyr applying for, bcz, like James (Disney Geek) said, Disney want 2 train u up from scratch, 'the Disney way'.

So, anyone else that only has experience in merch so is planning on putting that down as ur first chioce, seriously consider going for f&b. At my second f 2 f, Roger pretty much said "Everyone put down f&b as ur first chioce, cz ther r so few jobs in merch that u probs wont get in". Obviously some ppl do! Im not sayin no one does, cz Iv got friends doin merch, but I just wish someone wuda told me this info at my first f 2 f wen I put merch and didnt get it.

Its easier for non native speakers to get a job for the crp because the way they narrow down the list is on how good is your english. So if your english is pretty good you are almost guaranteed an invitation to the f2f interview¡¡¡

Yummy only appear to play the experience card when its getting near the end of the application date. So I think if you send yours in near the start it shows that you are keen and you will probably get an interview
