Hi, I'm new here so apologies if this question has previously been covered. I was basically wondering whether you could do the CRP for a shorter period of time, for example for 6 months or is it permanently fixed at 12 months. Thank you
its fixed for 12 months, of course you can self terminate and leave before the 12 months are up but if you do that you have to be out of the USA within 24hours of the date you terminate on (thats a restriction of the visa) what would be you reasons for only wanting to do it for 6 months? speaking as someone who has already done it, 6 months is not enough time!!!! you would want to stay for longer,i promise!!! ;D
Oh for financial reasons more than anything. I'm concerned that I wouldn't be able to finanically hack it for 12 months. Wow, that's quite a strict visa restriction, but I can see the logic behind it.
if you were in food & beverage and got into a tipped role you would be fine for money..... if you were in merch or attractions then yes, it would be tight for money, unless you have a lot of savings to take with you
Right now I have absolutely no savings whatsoever. I've been in uni for five years, so yeah.. I'm not in the best financial position. I haven't even applied yet, as I'm stressing over my CV and cover letter.
applications close in september, and they are for positions between february - june 2011 so you have time to pull some money together, its not cheap tho (the application process and the inital costs involved) so you may want to think how your going to finance it - if you really have no savings you should really be looking for a F&B role so that you can get into a tipped position and make some money, unless you want to and think you could handle living on 100 bucks a week..... (dont get me wrong, many people who go over and do merch love it and the lack of money doesnt bother them,i personally wouldnt have enjoyed it had i been in merch and had no money all year......) your looking at about £1000 before you even arrive in florida tho (the costs to get to the interview in london, the various admin and visa fees, the cost of your flight over to florida, health insurance etc..... or you could always wait untill the next round of applications in the new year - give you time to get money together and really build up your experience etc.....
Thanks for your help. It's just nice to know a rough estimate of how much money I need, I can then save towards that. I mean, I have savings that I can't touch for this but, yeah.. I have no problem living on the minimum. I'd love to do it, but the reality is, it doesn't come cheap.
jackson is absolutely right. Alot of people need to remember that you could struggle and having a bit of money behind you can help. Better safe then sorry. Food and Beverage on tipped position is beneficial. i was in Merch and i struggled maybe twice, only because i cooked for everyone and never knew how to cook for one person. TBH people kinda watch out for each other anyway. We're like family but theres also limits to beeeeing too nice... Theres Pro's and con's for each position you do; Food and Bev (tipped)- its great when you're working buuuut if you call in sick, you have no money. Food and Bev (non-tipped)- depends on busy periods but you're more stable at the fact of you get a higher hourly wage. Merchandise- Depending on staffing, you get to work alot of hours and have a decent outcome everyweek. There's no point of sugar coating the program, its not 100% "Magical" but why should it be? It actually makes the experience more exciting. i know that sounds odd but you'll see. Heads up, dont forget that in april you will get to claim your Tax from what you've worked in disney. plus if you stay for the entire contract, you get your flight money back. its kinda consider as a lil reward for not leaving... untill they say so lol. Theres an actual reason as to why they only give you 24 hours to leave, one main reason is that if disney are able to get a replacement from the wait list, they would use your visa for that person,. thats why there are some people who only do the contract possibly 7 months or so. Just enjoy the experience and just see what happens. i guess this is why the program is focussed more on people in uni and etc because there depend on you being flexible.
Thanks for that... That's all been very helpful. Oh I'm fully aware it's not going to be all happy happy, magical time, the whole time, and I know that it'll be hard work, and that really is important to know. I still haven't applied because I'm being too picky about my cover letter.
awww dont stress too much about your cover letter, just make sure you cover the most important points and let them know exactly why you want the job, youl be fine!!!!
