Hey, I was looking through the posts but couldn't find anything that covered this properly. I read something about having to wear a suit for the first few days or first week or something when you're at WDW. Can anyone explain this to me? Like, where do you wear it to and how long is it... 3 days, 4 days, a week? Also; won't it be proper hot in a suit? - Luke
Firstly, yes it'll be really hot in a suit. Which is why its goos you only have to wear it for one day, Traditions.
if you have to attend traditions then you have to go in dress clothes, and since everyone has to do traditions... (unless you've been there before?) I think most aren't wearing a full suit though, not the people going over during the summer months. dress trousers and shirt I think are fine. there is a thread about it lower down where everyone has been talking about the finer details of all this! we're all worried about shoes and hair and things...
Dress Code = Business Attire...Just no jeans, tank tops, shorts *unless they are 'dress shorts'* You only have to wear this business attire for 3 days Traditions, and your two discovery days!
And don't worry about it being hot! Traditions is in the Disney University and lets just say they like air conditioning LOL! When I got there on the first J1A program, they told us to take jackets in case we got cold!
Yeah I wore a suit last summer and while it was bad when outside, you're not outside all that much for Traditions
Regarding dress code, I have one quick query! It says in the information pack (under the expenses part) that we should bring $30-$50 for work shoes....does that mean that we have to buy them from orlando and we cannot bring our own??
i think you can bring your own if you know what kind you have to wear, but a lot of folk don't know in advance what area they're working in. ICPers do though... I've got a new pair of shoes I'm bringing in the hope I'm correct about what I should be wearing. They're really comfy black trainer style shoes. If I'm wrong then hey, I've got a pair of comfy shoes for regular days around the parks instead!
If you know the type of shoe you need in your work area you are free to bring them. If you are working in Food and Beverage you MUST have "Non-slip"/"Tread-safe" Shoes! All of the work shoes can be found at the outlets or Walmart so it's not a big deal!
Yeah, it's best to wait until you know where you're working. My first 3 months was in QSF&B so I needed non-slip black shoes (ha! they said non slip on the box but you should have seen me slipping around in the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street..it was hilarious!) but then when I moved to attractions I needed boots for the Jungle Cruise, so I had to go out and buy them.
I wore plain black adidas trainers in costuming.. I think as long as there leather and all black it doesn't really matter.. Obviously depending on what role your in tho, because i think some have 2 wear white shoes..
I guess as a Character Attendant I'll just be wearing plain black shoes. I've got some already (from my secondary school days) but they're massive and clunky... they make my feet sweat in Northern England weather so I think I definitely need to see if I can get a nice breezy pair from Orlando!
Yeah man, i got mine from the outlet mall, but walmart do some as well..Although i thought the one's in the outlet more were nicer and abit more stylish! haha..
