So I'm jst wondering how far the apartment complexes are from Epcot and the Disney World park itself. I've been on google maps and it looks sort of far but for those who have actually been there (or are there right now ;)) how far is it really? How long would it take to walk? or maybe ride a bike?

    Thanks :)

Walking would honestly take like an hour and it's all like freeways no sidewalks so not very safe. If you ride a bike then youu would have to worry about the crazy drivers. It's definitely not advised. I honestly think it would take over an hour to walk there.

LOL yeah I figiured from looking at the map that it would take about an hour. I don't think an hour's that bad to walk but walking on the highway wouldn't be fun, and like you said not safe.
Oh well I guess I'll just stick with the bus :-\

its not actually that far but you have a nice little 8 lane motor way in the way - also its illegal to walk on roads/areas without side walks

driving its around 15-20 mins to epcot on the buses its around 25-35 mins

furthest park away is animal kingdom

you wouldnt be able to walk it, its a fair distance, takes about 25 minutes by car (from commons to AK) and like the others have said the area around it is basically motorways (freeways) etc and you cant walk on those!!!!! i guess you could ride a bike but its guna take a while to get there, your guna be so hot and sweaty by the time you get there, i dont think theres anywhere there to leave a bike? and you would have to contend with the frankly CRAZY motorists!!!!

Although walking to Epcot would be impossible, you can walk from the housing complexes to Downtown Disney via sidewalks in about 50 minutes, and then get a bus to any of the parks from there, but you might as well just get the cast member bus which would be quicker!

    Around 2 miles.

I would suggest you not to walk, because we have free transportation to any place on Disney Property

Driving to the closest takes 10 minutes at the most and to get onto the propertyh at first can take as little as 5m inutes by car unless you get stuck at that stupid light on the otherside of the I4 that takes FOREVER to change. Walking might seem ok or whatever if an hour is attractive to you (get to walk under the I-4) the only thing to factor there is the heat and how humid and hot you wil lbe by the time you get to Disney. Best bet is just to stick with the free transportation or a car.

I have a friend who actually owned a car but chose to walk to work a few times. I thought she was crazy, it took over an hour and then she showered at cast services. She said it was good for clearing her head....I'm pretty sure there aren't side walks most of the way so she was kind of just trekking along the highway

in which case she was doing so illegally!

If Highway patrol had been out they could have arrested her for that which would have seen her sent home.

    I wouldn't risk walking, it's a really bad idea.

They is sidewalks all the way from the complexes to work. Under the I-4 there is a sidewalk tucked in there and you can walk all the way if you like. I just wouldnt suggest it unless you want to add a good 90-120 minutes to your work day in order to walk and shower. But also walking can be an adventure anywhere. Keep in mind a large portion of the cars (esspecially around where we live) are TOURISTS who dont know the streets, the signs etc and you can have a few close calls. Also my first big scare came by Vista way crossing the road at a cross walk and as I saw a car off in the distance I started to cross (assuming they would stop for me like they do here in Canada) needless to say the breaks got slammed on as they pproached the horn honking and cursing me up and down for not waiting for them at a CROSS WALK. I realized later there is an actual sign that says Stop for Cars. Best to stick with cabs! Once you on the in with Kojak, Kel or Jason your set as they take care of us!

you realise that if you did somehow manage to walk to epcot, albeit illegally, you would be a sweaty stinking mess.....walking a few miles in 90 degree heat, not the best way to start an 8 hour day

Ya, I would not walk from housing to work because of the reasons people have already mentioned. During my first program, my roommates and I decided to walk from Vista to Downtown Disney instead of taking the bus since the bus took forever to get there from Vista. We were so hot and gross by the time we got there, plus got mud all over ourselves. Stick to the buses to get to work for sure.

I've walked to Downtown Disney from Commons before hehe. To walk to Crossroads takes about half an hour...to get the bus takes 40 mins lol.

Having walked from The Commons to Downtown Disney, i dont recommend it-i stumbled into the nearest airconditioned shop at DTD looking like a survivor from a plane crash in a desert!

i honestly can not understand why anyone would ever want to walk this - there is NO NEED TO!!!! fair enough if you want to walk it just to see how long it take etc but its a stupid idea to want to walk it day to day.....!!

and close calls with walking are maybe more common than you think. While we were out someone actually got hit by a car crossing near vista way. That area has LONG been a hazzard!

Give yourself the protection of 4 metal walls around you!

I personally found the bus system really easy to use and as someone who doesn't drive it was perfect for getting to work and also for going to walmart, all Disney parks, water parks, downtown Disney etc. Yes, you can pick up a copy of the full bus time table from the club house and There are usually some in your appartment aswell as one outside the bus stop at each club house!!!

It sucks (and hurts your hands) to carry 6-10 wal-mart bags on the bus or even from the bus stop to your apartment.

I suggest to befriend someone someone who has a car :)
