For the guys who have been or are there, How much do you take a away every month on average for f&b and merch? Cheers Ian.
When I was there a couple years ago, Merch made like $6.70 an hour or something ridiculous like that and we worked usually between 30-36/38 hours a week. So the answer is basically...pennies. Don't expect to save much if you are in Merch. The bonus is more time off usually. Shannon
what are people making like at the end of the two weeks when you get your check... is it like a hundred bucks or is it several hundred dollars?
It depends really on how much you wanna work. Lots of people took all the hours they could and extended their shifts if they were needed. I, on the other hand, liked to go home early and would ER as much as possible...do recall getting a $95 paycheque once. WHOO HOO!!! Yeah slacker me. I can't really remember much else. Shannon
Do you get paid every week or every other week? Rent is paid every week, right? Either way - whateves! They could pay me in mickey mouse droppings LOL (which they almost do eh? hehe) But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what we're bringing home every payday and then how much we get once we're earning tips.
It would have been more if I wanted to stay at work, but the lure of the Commons was stronger. I'm pretty sure we got paid every week, Thursday? Tuesday? Argh. EPCOT - Every paycheck comes on Thursday (or Tuesday?). Ha. Shan
I think merch is up to $6.90 now with a minimum 32 hrs... basically $120 every Thursday once you deduct rent. 38-40 hrs/week is totally liveable ($180-200-ish paycheques I seem to remember) but the 32-hour weeks kill you! You can live but it's tough to save anything if you're working minimum hours. ~*~Linda~*~
I REALLY hope no one is trying to SAVE when they are there!! Unless you are working in F&B of course!! ;D
That was my philosophy exactly! Although I did pretty well -- I paid down a little bit of my existing student loan (just the tip of the iceburg lol!), paid for my semester when I came back home to school and even managed to go on a 7-night Disney Cruise when I was down there -- all on Merchie wages! Watch out for Florida Mall though... it's a dangerous place for Merchies! ~*~Linda~*~
Wow, Linda. That's impressive!!!! I spent EVERY penny I made plus a lot. I did whatever the heck I wanted, whenever I wanted...bought whatever I wanted and didn't care. Lived with reckless abandon for a year. Rented cars a lot, went on a few trips. I was also lucky to have an F&B boyfriend who made loads of cash!! And my parents came down from Toronto every couple months to restock my food supply!!! Shannon
EPCOT = Every Pay Check Comes on Thursdays! ;D I managed not too bad on merch wages. Not going to pretend it's a lot but I do remember taking home at least $130 a week after rent being deducted. And at one point we were working 6 days a week due to staff shortages so had loads of spare cash!!! I did quite a few trips while I was there on merch wages. New York (to see Bon Jovi!), Chicago, Las Vegas, Key West and the Disney Cruise (twice!!!) And managed to go out at least 3 or 4 nights a week if not more! Dollar beers were a God send!!! And so were visiting parents who would stock the cupboards with food!!!! ;D Laura.
Hi all I worked in F&b iin the UK in 2003. Before we got into service we got paid the same as merch which was $6.70 an hour so I guess that's now $6.90. I got about $180 a week I remember. When you go into service you got $2.50 an hour waiting tables and $4.50 an hour working in the bar (this may have gone up a few cence but not much i guess!). Your wages pretty much disappeared in rent and tax. In fact it wasnt unusual to get minus pay checks and actually owe disney money for rent. I remember a 10c pay check once.... you have to be careful cause you can wind up oweing loads! Of course we got our tips which were about $50 to $200 a night. Probably average about $100 a night. You take your tips in cash which is why you get no money in your pay check. Only gratatuity goes into your pay check (ie added onto the bill if there was a nib party or what ever.) You have to "tiger" ie declare your cash tips for tax which also gets taken out of your pay check even though you take the money in cash at the end of the shift. does that make sense? tis pretty complicated! basically if you're in food and bev you'll be loaded. I once took home $1000 in cash in 7 days! But merch is def enough to live on and you avoid the stress and horror that can be waiting tables.... Good times! ;D
That's right BUBBLES.....scare us NEWBIES!! HAHAHAHAHAH NO just kidding!! We ALL know that the wages are NOT what draws us here and I HOPE that everyone REALLY keeps a focus on that........we are NOT making MONEY!! Say it with me everyone....."WE ARE NOT MAKING MONEY.......WE ARE NOT MAKING MONEY............" ;D ;D
but we totally are making money...........$180 every week? Thats loads! All you have to buy with that is food, which can't be more than $50 a week if you don't eat out all the time. But those aren't super bad wages, it's a minimum wage job so you get minimum wage pay but you work so many house that you're still getting lots of money.
it wont be enough to pay for my designer bag habit....but i dont mind making that sacrifice for a year ;D ;D ;D
LOL Yeah but there is a Coach outlet store in the mall across the street.......and you can always save up No need to kick that habit!
Yeah enough for a trip every second month, and a good few disney cruises as well !! You got the money for that year so spend it well !!
i wanna buy a gucci bag from mall of millenia if i go.... but im loving the coach idea forgot about that ;D
