just looking around online and theres not much about this sort of thing... does anyone know if programs like this open to international students on the icp or would it only be if you were there for a long time like the crp?

 

I'm quite sure anyone on any program can do it... it just depends on what you want to voluntEAR with and how much time you have!

 

I know you at least have two different choices. They have this thing where you hang out and do stuff with give kids the world kids so their parents can have a night off, when I was there they did this on wednesdays and saturdays. And you as a international you can also go to schools in the area and talk about your country with the students.

 

I think this is such a good idea I'm definatly going to get involved if i can

I did Give Kids the World (Parent's Night Out) and it was awesome! We got to all dress up and play games and dance and have so much fun with the kids! I definitely recommend it.

 

I really want to do this as well, I wanted to last summer but for the whole time I was there I didn't have the right evenings off!! Sounds like a very rewarding experience.

 

I never got to try it either! I signed up for it once because it fit with my schedule, but then they suddenly changed it so I couldn't go anyway But next time I'll try and request shifts so I get to do it a few times!

 

what does give kids the world entail?!

 

I was told it was like sick kids helpin them out makin there day happy. I think it would be hard knowing they will die young... I dont know its crazy I totally have to volunteer for something though

 

Yeah it's really sad, but very special too meet the kids from Give Kids The World! The kids getting to go somewhere through them is kids who is guaranteed to die and most likely very soon. The organization is there to give the kid a last wish or something like that.

And don't forget their siblings! It's sometimes really hard to tell which child is which... you soon forget why they're there and just concentrate on having fun! Especially when you can go on the carousel hehehe and eat loads of ice cream!

You need to sign up for every time you want to do it, so sometimes it might be full and sometimes they might need more people...
