So I've seen some people talking about the Disney insurance and I'm wondering if it's worth choosing over another insurance company. It's all kind of confusing for me since I've never had to have insurance for health care like most of us (boo to health insurance!). So what would the Disney insurance include or what would be covered? Is it just doctor stuff or do they throw in dental etc.? And how much are we paying for the year approx.? Thanks ya'll.
Hi Nicole, I'm not there yet (22days!!!) but maybe I can help a little. First of all, we need an health insurance from another company than Disney for the first 4 months. After that you can stay with your company or go with the Disney health Insurance. I don't know the price exactly but I've heard it's like 5-10 dollars per week, it's taking off you pay check. an advantage is that you deal with a Floridian company and you don't have to pay all of it at first. As for 4 months my insurrance cost me 200$, it's probably about 500$ for a year that you have to pay before you leave canada. I hope it's include dental cause it's SO EXPENSIVE...i'll see it there...
I'm on the Disney Insurance, and I currently have just over $10 a week taken from my paycheck. When you compare that to the $100 or so taken for rent, and the $50 or more taken in tax, you barely notice it. That does include both dental and optical.
jslussier: Who are you going with for your four month insurance? $200 doesn't seem that bad. Vikki: Phew! I'm happy that dental and optical are included (as they should be)! But about the tax, when is that $50 taken out of your paycheck?
Dental and Optical are extras that you can choose to have or not have when you sign up for the Disney Insurance. I choose to have them, just to be on the safe side. Tax is taken out before the money gets to you, just as with any other pay. Same as with your rent. The money that gets to you is all yours to spend as you wish, rent and tax are gone long before money gets to you.
Hello! Hopefully I can be some help on this topic. I would highly recommend staying with your own purchased insurance if you possible can. When I worked down there I had CAA travel insurance for the first 3 months (they didn't tell us that it wasn't until the 4th month that Disney insurance kicked in) and then went for the Disney one. I was very sick when I was down there, right after my CAA insurance had given out, and everything down there is very expensive. When the Disney insurance did kick in it only covered extreme situations (like life or death). I ended up flying back to Canada and going to the hospitals here and then when I returned I went back with the CAA insurance for the rest of my contract. I would definitely look hard into what the Disney insurance costs and what it covers. It has been a few years since I had the Disney insurance, but I can only see it covering less than more. Hopefully this helps. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
my parents had that worry... that Disney insurance would cover less that I needed, so I went with a Canadian company for the entire year. I had to pay it all at once, and it wasnt exactly cheap, but my coverage is really really good so I know I'll be safe
I was SOOO bad and opted for zero medical insurance. My 3 month one ran out and then i kept forgetting to sign up with the Disney one.. i wouldn't recommend it, but i did manage to only need medical attention twice in the year and both were work related accidents, so Disney covered all costs.
Hmmm...that seems pretty bad. Are you absolutely sure it hasn't got better after the years? I mean, it might have changed for the better and your case might have been a rare occurrence, no offence. Now I'm confused about what to do. ???
