I see today on page 18 of Fri 23rd Jan 09 Daily Star that it says Disney has axed 600 managers jobs at Disney World Florida and Disneyland in California because of falling visitor numbers! So its a worrying time all round, bet not many jobs will be on offer now and is it safe to go if youre offered one?

JEEEEEZ, well for whoever is going, or is trying to go. Make sure to work ur but off 24/7 whilst ur over there.
Screamscape, the theme park news and rumors site explains it quite well: http://www.screamscape.com/html/industry_news.htm#Disney with the news link: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...isney-executive-layout-012109,0,3302228.story and today (disney was yesterday) Universal Orlando got rid of 70 people, again on screamscape with a link to the Orlando Senitel http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/bu.../universal-orlando-lays-off-70-employees.html Not a good time for jobs in Orlando. In terms of us there's a finite number of shops and restaurants in the UK pavilion (and others), so to reduce the number of people doing the basic jobs you'd need to do things like reduce park hours, not run restaurants at full capacity, somehow improve efficiency or give those that are there longer hours. Gloomy times, but I'm hopeful they'll see what great Cast Members we'll be.
It is true about the job cuts but it won't affect us. Disney hire roughly the same amount of cast members from other countries each year for the Epcot Pavilion. It's the US resident cast members/ managers that will get the cut as there must be over 100,000 cast members across all those parks. Hotel occupancy is apparently low with only 35% of all their hotel rooms being full between January and April but apparently the Magic Kingdom is still well over half full on a normal weekday without the kids being on Holiday. That's about 35,000 out of 60,000 which Disney are happy with. Don't worry guys
Ya it doesn't look like it will really effect cast members too much. Hopefully Obama can save the economy..
Hope it wont be long hours and poor pay? What do Food and Bev get per hour and Merchandise people? Its a worry as i think there are worst times to come.
well when i was there everyone earns $7.00 an hour, but u cant compare cos in food and beverage u go into service and get tips so!
Have you not got the letters that tell you your salary Daz? You start off at something like $7.85p/h, it goes down when you start getting tips but well, your getting tips so it doesn't really matter!
I think Daz is doing Merchandise, so it's easier for him as he's on a fixed rate for the whole year ;D
haha falling visitor rates...when this whole thing started in last year, we practically couldn't book a Disney resort and when we got there you couldn't get a dining reservation for love nor money! So someone must be going!
LOL!!! DisneyGibbs so true, i remember every customer would ask for firework seating and we'd be like, uh sorry dude its first table available which would make them nearly slap my face, now i bet its like a big sign at the restaurant door saying 'Firework seating for all!'
How many people have already done this program before? Sounds like loads of people have although i thought Roger said you can't do the program again? Or did you folks just do the summer program and now doing the CRP for the 1st time
