Usually that occurs when there are VISA problems. For my departure, for example, there were 2 Norwegians arriving, tho it was supposed to be like 30... But this was in July 2002, so not long after 9/11. The further you get away from 9/11, the shorter the waiting time will be for the VISA. I don't think that will be a really big problem nowadays, except, maybe, for IPs from Morocco...?

Those delays were because of the horrendous hurricanes last september...remember, when there were like 3 in the space of 2 weeks!?!? they couldn't fly out cos everything was shutting in preparation, or destroyed, or it was when the bad weather was actually happening, and they couldn't fly into it......since you're early sept, you might miss the season this year, by a margin...so i don't see why you wouldn't go on time.....

...of course, I'm not a weather man!! be prepared!

There were lots of delays the summer of 2003 as well. I arrived August 6th which probably should have been a huge arrival group, but instead there were only like 30 of us in total. I found out later that there were lots of Canadian and UK F&B that should have arrived then as well, but they all ended up in two huge groups in September. It all depends on the "world environment" at the time. Most of the delays then, we due to the war. We didn't even know if we'd get to go for sure. And then with the SARS thing, being from Toronto, we were worried but never got delayed (or quarantined for that matter!)

Do you know if it is A MUST to get the VISA prior to departure 30 days???? Is there ANY exception case???

The USA Embassy has sent me back a msg.
One thing which surprises me is that it says,"As an exchange visitor (J-1) visa holder, ******you will not be admitted into the
United States more than 30 days prior to the beginning of your program date
as listed on your DS-2019. Please consider that date carefully when making
your travel plans to the United States."***********

The univ. arranged my classmates and I have the interview with the US Embassy on 13th May
I will be leaving on 6th June. THere is LESS than 30 days in between the day of interview and the departure.
    What'm I gonna do?

I don't know why I always encounter difficulties when dealign the VISA stuff. :'( :'(
