Cutting it fine for a Visa?

    Hi all,

I'm starting at HRC on 1st Feb (possibly flying on 31st Jan) but haven't booked my visa appointment yet. The Embassy is closed today (odd as it's not a UK or US public holiday) - am I cutting it fine for sorting my Visa out or do they generally offer you an appointment in the not too distant future?

    Thank you.

From passed experience, i remember ringing up for a appointment and they offered me one at like 9am the next morning, and i live all the way up north in lancashire, so was like.. hmmm kinda cant make that one, have you got any next week, so they offered it me the following week, so i think you will be pretty safe, and i think it takes just over a week to get your passport back, but if you're worrired it wont come in time, then you can pay the extra to get it posted to you a lot quicker :)

Put it this way... if Terri and I had your departure date, we wouldn't even know we were going out there yet!!!

I had 3 weeks notice of my departure date. My visa was the thing I was worried about most, but everything was all fine and I even had a couple of days to spare in the end. As Michelle said, the Embassy will offer you interviews for 9am the next day if they've got them. I actually did take one of those... had to leave home at 3am (Bristol - took the bus) to get there on time.

Thanks Vikki - been reading your blog, great effort.
I phoned earlier and got an appointment for 6th Jan but the lady said that all Q1 appointments are now at 8am, so it's going to mean going up the night before for me.
That was the worst £10 phone call ever ;-)

8am appointments are amazing! I was back in bed by 1030! Just if you get an 8am, get there for 730 at least!

I'd fly out on 31st if you can, I came out a few days earlier - so happy I did, the first few days are go go go, so its nice to be able to chill beforehand!!! x

    Hey Lauren,

Nice to hear from you. I did see your name on the bottom of my I797-B but wasn't sure of your dates. Are you on FB? It'd be nice to chat prior to going - I know very little about HRC!

I wouldn't worry about the visa, guys. As Vikki said, we didn't even have that much notice. It's about a week or so turnaround time, usually. You'll be fine!

I thought I was cutting it pretty fine for my visa, too but I got an appointment just fine.

I was wondering whether anyone else was having a nightmare filling out the VISA form online? Well, it's not too bad - it's just the photo section, my photo is either too big in KB & one that does fit comes out blurry on my review :(
Does anyone have any tips for the photo section of the visa?

    Meena x

If their automated program has accepted that photo, then you're fine, even if it looks blurry. Just be sure to take a couple of physical copies on the day, on the off chance someone looks at it and says it's blurry. So long as you fill all the dimension criteria, don't worry too much.
