Hey Everyone... I looked into something today that I thought might be of interest to other Cdns. This is info for OHIP coverage for those in Ontario, but I'm sure that the other Cdn provinces will have something similar.

Ontarians may or may not realize that you lose your Ontario residency after being out of the country for more than 212 days. If you do nothing and come back from Florida after a year, you will have to apply for OHIP coverage again and then be subject to a 3 month period where you won't be covered.

All you need to do to be exempt from this is visit a Ministry of Health centre. Take your letter from Disney that has your dates, job title and the visa information that will all come in your package. Take you health card, a piece of ID with your Ontario address (ie Drivers Licence), your birth certificate, and something with your signature (ie a credit card). They will issue you a new health card that expires just after you are scheduled to come back from Florida. When you come back, you renew your card and your benefits from OHIP are as they were and you won't have to reapply for it. It takes about 30 days to process everything.
