hey guys, i need some help!
my cover letter was an a4 page and was just going to apply but when i put my address and stuff on the cover letter it took it to about a page and a half... i think they should be about a page long so i don't know what to take out of it as it all seems relevent, can anyone help?!

what are the most important things they are looking for in cover letter so i know what would be ok to take out?

any help would be appreciated, thankssss!

hi, you wont need your address on their because it should be on your C.V and they are both attached as one document right?

And in my cover letter is only 4 paragraphs, one about myself, then my experiance, why I want to do it and then just my thankyous, I just took there advice and kept everything simple and to the point. I'm just a little worried I sound a bit beggy in mine lol!

    hiya!

with the cover letter, i think the most important thing is to be clear and succinct. you're definitely right that it shouldn't go over an A4 page so I reckon the best thing to do is to get someone else to read it over and see what they think you can cut out. it might be that you can say exactly the same thing in half the number of words (i'm terrible for this, i write 6 when one would suffice).

you need all the basic things of course - why you want to do the program, what you'll get from it, your experience etc but it might be thet you're going into too much detail about each thing. for instance, say you have customer service experience and say what jobs you've done which shows this but don't into loads of detail about each individual thing. you can talk about that in the interview anyway and often you're just repeating what's on your CV. they'll look at the 2 documents together so make sure that all the info is there, just move it around so that both flow nicely together and don't repeat each other more than is necessary.

also, if you haven't already, use the motivation box on the application to say why you want the position etc, then you can probably cut down what you say in the cover letter.

incidentally, i would also say, try not to get too bogged down in it all. a lot of it is luck anyway, and i don't think will yummy will turn you down if your cover letter is a little long if they like what it says and think you'll be great for the program which I'm sure you will be!! i didn't even DO a cover letter, just filled out a bit in the motivation box so i really wouldn't stress too much. i pplied on a whim and literally just wrote what I felt rather than over thinking it too much and i'm now heading out in september. so yeah, there's no need to stress. I think sometimes these forums, as amazing as they are, can make you feel under a lot of pressure and there's no need.

if you need anymore help then feel free to PM me or add me on facebook (Amelia Donnelly - my pic is of me in a flowery t-shirt with another girl if that helps.)

    good luck!! xxx

And that post is an excellent example of my ability to waffle...take that as an example of what NOT to do in your cover letter!!!

Hope it helped a bit though xxx
