Hi people! I have a random question - I am wondering what people have done about getting contact lenses in the states? I am currently on monthly lenses but want to change to dailies for the year program... its super expensive buying 12 months worth but is that what people have done? Or have you taken a prescription over with you and got them from places like walmart? Help!
Well, I would take them with you, at least I did. I checked out a few eyecare stores in states and didn't like it too much. Btw, my health insurance covers a part of my lenses, at least if i get them in my home country. Last time i was there i took my lenses with me (montly lenses), and halfway bought new lens fluid at walmart.
Hi, Just wondered what you did in the end? I understand that the lenses are cheaper if you get them online, so I was going to buy a years worth of lenses then take a few daily lenses for when Im more likely to lose them e.g. swimming. What did you find was best? I know the solution may take up a lot of space? Thanks
I kinda gave up LOL. I took three months of monthlies and a month's worth of dailies and 3 bottles of solution. You can definitely buy solution here and then I'm going to check out Walmart and see if I can buy some more daily contacts there (I'm just using them like you described - whenever I need them instead of everyday) and if not then buy them online at getlenses.co.uk and either get them shipped here or get my mum to send them! I'll probably buy more monthlies on there too or get my mum to get them from vision express/specsavers.
A discount contact lense, or simply contact, is a lens placed on the eye. They are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons.
I got my lenses out there when I worked on the program. Lenscrafters is the main chain... the equivalent of Specsavers I guess. Most malls have one. If you have a valid signed prescription I'm pretty sure you can just take it in and order your lenses through the store. Most walmarts also have their own optician. The problem I had was that the lenses I had from the UK they didn't make in the US. So I had to pay to have an eye test. Standard rate is about $100. And then u pay for the lenses all in one go and pick them up from the store. Typically will not include solution. I can't even remember what I paid. I want to say it was about $350 and that was for 24 month supply. It did work out cheaper than what I would have paid in the UK. You can buy solution at Walmart inexpensively and any other major supermarket. I wanna say it's about $7 for a bottle which typically lasts what? 2 months? I would definitely take some with you because it will take you at least a month to get the hang of things there. When you know how to get to the mall and Walmart you can arrange an appointment at the optician and sort it out. I won't lie... it is a little bit of hassle... coz you make an appointment... go back... have a trial version of the lenses... then go back again... but once it's done that's it and you can bring the extra ones home with you.
