For those of us that are ... as we have dubbed ... topless (laptop-less) how accessible are the CM computers? I highly doubt I'll be able to afford a laptop in the next month and my friends don't love me that much.

And ... if anyone knows, can you download software on to the computers? I'm not entirely IT savy but I just got a digital camera (Grad present ... woo!) and I want to make sure I'll be able to download my pictures.

Well you know I can't answer all that well, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to borrow mine if our work schedules permitted it since we leave and arrive on the same date and will likely be living close.

I arrive the same time as you too. And will have my laptop with me so you can use mine as well :)

Thats very true we might be.....Its a good chance actually cause its really only the IPs that get mixed with other countries I think us Canadians doing this program will be rooming together.

yeah I know the ICP's are rooming together so I have a feeling we will be as well, but to the best of my knowledge/memory I'm the only male on this program on this site so my roomies will be all new

    That would be fun Kristine!

Although I'm a little bummed if it's true that our roomates are all Canadian ... I was looking forward to the culture shock.

Ah well ... either way I'm sure we'll all have a blast!

I'd still like to know about the public access stuff ... I don't want to have to rely on having some generous friends .. like I told Jordan tonight I write alot of emails when i'm away from home.

I was looking forward to the culture shock as well...bit it may not happen this trip. But we will still have an awsome time!!!
I don't know much about the public access but it seems like there is a decent amount of computers for our use at the club house.

    Hi everyone!!!

My name is Scarlet and I'm from Mexico..
I have a couple of friends who've worked there and I've heard that there are only a couple of computers and that aren't all that fast :'( though for all of you who will be taking their laptops with you I was told that there's internet connection on all rooms and that it's pretty fast so... *yaaay* 4 all of u!! ;)

Anywayz.. I was wondering.. are you all scheduled for June 20th?? 'Cause I am (and a whole bunch of other Mexican buddies) so if you are scheduled on June 20th, you are staying at Vista Way and are programmed to work under a 5-month contract (QSR)... then we might be roomies in the future!! :D

    Anywayz.. gotta go now!!
    Take care!!!

We're close but not quite, we're on a "6 month" program thats an H2b visa program lasting until June 20th. We may be in Vista but I heard that thats all College participants so it leads me to beleive we'll be in Chatham (since we're all on the waitlist for the IP)

    Oooohhh!!! :p
Well, I'm not sure wether I'll be on Vista or Chatham myself... our PA has been back and forth on that one so.. it could be either...

Anywayz.. it's kinda late so I'm going to bed!!
Just wanted to say I LOOOVE technology for allowing us to meet before it all happens!! ;D

    Take care!!

for sure :D I heard that there's about 400! people arriving our date so it would make sense if theres a large group of Mexicans and Canadians and who knows who else all arriving. but from what I read under Living Experience on this site we'll most likely be in Chatham (which is good because it's close to the commons)

Jorden.. you've made my day.. or night (?) :D
I hope Chatham is the place since, as you said, is closer to The Commons and I have a couple of friends there now..

400 people?!? woooow!!! I've read here that there'll be a lot of Brittish guys arriving as well on that day!!!

    Anyway...now i'm really off to bed!!! :p

    C ya later!!! :D

Haha, so about 10 posts and still no one's really answered your question... ;)

I can sorta do that, at least for Vista anyways. There is a Disney learning center in the clubhouse here, there are about 20 computers and the club house is open I believe until 9PM. So it shouldn't be that hard to have access to the internet. As for downloading pictures, I'm not so sure. It might be easier for you to use one of your roomies' lappys.
I only used the club house computers once since I have my own laptop, but they seemed pretty decent and pretty fast. Hope this helps!

How about the net connections in the room what is that like, any details on it?

Yeah I wouldn't mind knowing what the connections are like either. My parents surprised me with a laptop as a grad present.

Bring an ethernet capable and it's plug and go. Bring a wireless router and it's even easier :)

So an ethernet cable plugs into your wall in how many spots in the apartment and where are they located.

The router will get you access throughout the apartment, but how secure is the network?

I believe I read there is 5 ports in the living room.

The Router will allow you to set your own security settings, so it's as secure as you make it. Only people that know your WEP key or WPA code or whatever the WPA password is called will have access to your network, and they'd be the only people that would pose a threat to your computer.

WPA is more secure than WEP
