So I have my interview in the next couple of days for the one year program and if I were to get the job I would be there during fun times like Halloween and Christmas and other fun days and Im just wondering what kinda fun things do they do during these times?? Thanks for the help
For the month of October they have Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and during the end of November and December they have Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
At halloween there's Mickey's not so Scary Halloween party which i didn't go to but heard it's really fun!! there's a special parade and you can pick up candy all night and Magic Kingdom is only open for those who have special tickets for the event (CMs get discount on some nights)...everyone really takes their costumes seriously as well so every person you see looks fab and if you're into the whole character meeting thing you get to see some you wouldn't normally see!! Alternatively there's Halloween Horror Nights at Universal...but i was much too chicken to go to that :-[ I heard it was proper scary!!! At christmas there's Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party which is like the halloween one, only with a christmas theme...free hot chocolate and cookies all night! yum!! While you're working, there's a typical Father Christmas who tells the story of christmas in several countries in world showcase...so Santa Claus in the American Adventure, Father Christmas in the Uk, Pere Noel in France etc etc. They also change the music in the pavilions from the regular loop to a special christmas loop (which I re-heard the other night and it flooded back the memories!), there's the xmas trees and decorations in every park, and the thing that everyone appreciates most 40% DISCOUNT!!! that starts in November and is SO CONVENIENT!! Christmas day is actually a bit of a sad one as everyone misses their families, but random xmas dinners are fun and everyone's in the same boat so you can all sympathise with each other!! My christmas day was really weird last year...I made a god-awful totally non-christmas dinner of steak and over cooked mash potatoes...I managed to flood one of the kitchen drawers when I left the tap running, had to work but that was ok (pretty quiet in the park) and didn't do anything til about 11pm....but it was highly memorable!!! I suggest getting a good group together and planning to do something early...my plans were a bit last minute!! Hope this helps! Ellen x
ive been absolutely loving the 40% discount for the past 2 weeks ;D ;D ;D mickeys halloween party is soooo good.. the parade is amazing, i was lucky enough to get to watch it every night while i worked as well
christmas i gonna be soo fun... new years is like the busiest day of the year here so expect to be run off your little feet.. we all got warned today that we will never see anything like it!! so excited!!
Christmas is not that big of a deal. It's usually warm still and palm trees don't really remind me of christmas for some reason : I just spent it with some friends and some of us were exchanging gifts. New Years was super crowded, but I only started my shift at 5pm, so most of the people were tired by then and just sitting around not really buying much. The fireworks were AMAZING, I loved New Years. As for Halloween, I had just arrived so I didn't get to do the fun stuff like Mickey's not so scary Halloween Party but there was a huge party at the Commons and everyone was dressed up, it was sooo crazy! One of the biggest parties I ever saw there. Good times!
There's a new thing too called "Ice at Gaylor Palms" for Christmas, featuring an ice rink, ice figures, etc to make Florida look a bit "cooler" LOL. Haven't seen it yet tho'!!! Christmas IS fun, spent with your friends and making the most of the activities around. Yes, the parks are crowded as hell, but there's plenty to do outside: see the hotel christmas decorations, there's stuff down Int'l Drive, etc. Keeping yourself busy also keeps you from getting holiday blues... For Halloween, as they said, there's the Universal Studios Horror Nights. I LOVED IT!!!! Yeah, it CAN be downright scary (wouldn't go alone...), but it's entirely different to disney - can't miss it if you're into TV series like Supernatural (no Winchesters parading around, boo ), vampires, zombies and horror flicks in general. Universal has some extra decorations for Christmas, but nothing out of this world (not like disney!! hehe)
The locations sometimes do fun things for Christmas......I know this year we had a DINNER and had a pot luck but the kitchen cooked ham and we all ate together in the restuarant and it was FABULOUS!! Very Merry was GREAT FUN but let me tell you that the PIRATES and PRINCESS Party going on right now is AMAZING and well worth the extra for the tickets!! Where else can you dress up and have fellow cast members call you "PRINCESS"? LOVED IT!! I have to also admit that they had the VERY BEST FIREWORKS I have EVER seen at Disney!! Fellow Canadian cast members are now saying that they are even BETTER then the Not so Scary and they were AMAZING!! You should TRY and go for yourself.....you will LOVE the party!!Disney does it up right and although you are SO busy working your tail off for holidays like Christmas and New Year's....you should TRY And organize a get together with fellow cast members like I did ......you get to know people AND you get a home cooked meal which is NOT always something that happens down here...........
I was already scared to death at Universals "Van Helsing" thing. You have to walk through it and there are tons of people dressed up in scary costumes and they jump out at you from nowhere. Ahhhh not for me lol :-[
Haven't you noticed how these guys do seem to have a tendency to follow those who jump the most...? Van Helsing and the Horror Nights are quite frightening if you're easily scared. There's a lot of security in these places so no one goes punching the "monsters" out of fright...go figure, and they're not supposed to even touch you, but they do chase around more the more you run
lol i know! i had these 3 women in front of me (they were the first ones in line ) and they were soooo scared. they kept on screaming every time and were walking really close together, it was really funny. i always waited for the person to jump out at them and then i passed quickly lol it's so silly, too, because you know they are actors, but i think with me it's because i have a phobia of spiders and every time i walk through dark closed places like that i am scared shitless. and i didn't know you had to walk through that thing! it was pretty funny though, we all came out laughing at ourselves.
I tried to do the same thing! hehe, I waited until the people ahead of me were scared and then they didn't do anything to me...guess it's a proven technique! it helps also if by chance you get to see a special on horror houses the day before you go...(so tune in the tv)
I did not participate in halloween horror nights as i am an absolute wimp although this time i may be tempted! The Epcot christmas tree is the best christmas tree in the world and you have to walk past it to get to work everyday- it made me emotional but hey that isn't hard! and they have santas from around the world it's so cute to see all the kids with them. Christmas in the commons is ok, it's the busiest time so pretty much everyone works loads over the christmas period, we all got each other through it, I worked new years eve, came home and watched aladdin how rock and roll am i? But then again there was a queue to france for fish and chips and only 3 of us in there, it was hilarious how mad everyone was when they'd waited 2 and a half hours for fish and chips and then could only buy one drink per person!!! Loved it!! D x
Danielle, when are you going back? All Disney hotels have their own distinctive trees and ornaments (say, All Star Music has CDs hanging from the tree!) and it's pretty cool (not to mention CHEAP! lol) to do a tour to see them all -The Grand Floridian is specially beautiful at this time of the year! If you get a chance to do the backstage tour at the christmas warehouse...DO IT!!! It's awesome.
Nobody mentioned the lights at MGM. Possibly the most lights you will ever see in your entire life. There's so many that they have to start putting them up in October!!!! Christmas fireworks are amazing, but there are so many that it litterally rains down soot and ash. Someone, somewhere has a nice video of some spectacular fireworks when all of a sudden my brother starts yelling "MY EYE MY EYE. ITS IN MY EYE". Not so scary fireworks are amazing. Not so scary parade is amazing (love those gravediggers with the shovels!!) but make sure you get there 15 min early so you can see the headless horseman.
