Cell phone...worth it?

Discussion in 'Accepted/Current CRP Participants' started by Princess Tessa, Mar 2, 2006.

  1. I've been planning on taking my cell phone with me and getting it unlocked.
BUT I'm not sure now. I don't know why, just suddenly I'm thinking of leaving it here...

Y'all who are there now, do most people have cell phones? Is it worth it? Or can you make do with your apartment phone...

    Thanks :)

I'm taking mine. Mainly because I'm a loser and my cellphone is my only friend...

    ...yah.

So, yah, I'll be taking mine.

I am taking mine... mainly because i'm a text messaging addict....Thank goodness for $10 unlimited text messaging, i would be lost without it! Since i am in a contract, i figured i ambest to put it down to the smallest rate plan, and text message away!

Nearly everyone I know here bought a $40 Pay&Go Nokia from Walmart. It's a brick but it works - you can txt and phone anywhere in the world which is handy, and even though some people get by perfectly well without them, I couldn't have done......I hate not being able to contact people!!

Hey Ellen, that sounds like a good idea...maybe I'll do that. I like Nokia phones better than my Moto.

    Congrats to Tessa on 500posts.

I was planning on having this girl I know take over my plan (since I have still 2 years left), rather then paying the 200 hundred dollar fee to get out of it. But I love my phone and I crystalized the whole thing, so its hard to give it up.

I was going to buy a new phone down there because I heard they were very inexpensive and the minutes were cheap. Now i am just unsure and I still want to text message for free too. Hmmmm..

Does anyone know how the long distance works in the houses? How do you keep track of who is making long distance calls to home? Or does everyone just use a phonecard or cell??

At the CDN F2F last week they said for Long Distance calls you either need a calling card or a cell phone.

I was looking into some t-mobile plans out there that come with a free phone. the plan i like is 600 anytime minutes free nights and weekends for 39$ a month. to send a text message is 0.10$.
I think it will be better this way when my parents wanna call before they go to work or something they wont wake up everyone in the appartment.
I am just not sure sure if the plan is for 2 years or one year. but if its for 2 years i might find someone who wanna take the plan over before i leave.

Where in Canada are you from? Your face to face interview just happened? how did it go? when are you supposed to find out?
PS Thanks for the info about Long distance!

I'm from Red Deer, AB, but I'm in Edmonton at the U of A right now finishing up a degree. I'm pretty sure the F2F went amazing but I've got about 20 days or less before I findout for sure ;) (someone who had a F2F a few days before me posted today they allready got a call so now I'm quite anxious) March 27th (the day after my birthday) is the day I should know by, or if not I should call Cast-A-Way.

no problem about the long distance. When I'm not doing anything at University (which is most of the time) I'm killing time on the internet and currently this is the "popular" site for me to visit. Glad I knew for sure what to say for this one anyway (instead of like from what I understand this is the way it is or something like that).

  18. CALLING ALL CANADIANS!!!

All the phone cards I've seen are about 5.5 cents a minute canada-us
but on www.phonecardstore.ca you can get canada-us cards for 2.5 cents a minute!

Just thought I'd share this site, I was SO happy to find it!
