Yeah that would be awesome!! Celebrities must go there. The only one I've heard speak publically about going there is Lauryn Hill. That was a few years back but I think she lives fairly locally and has like 5 kids. I'd be more than happy to bump into her! She'd even been taken backstage so they must make special arrangements for celebrities to give them a bit of extra privacy I reckon.

Aparently Jodie Marsh was in epcot recently. Does she count?

We had johnny depp backstage when i was working in merchandise, and a few others but i didn't know them.

When i was working at high school musical we had a guy from boys 2 men (i think) and his family.

When i was working at fantasmic we had the prime minister of barbados! He had all his secret service team around him. We also had michael j fox.

My friend had quite a few of the High school musical stars on his ride over the summer.

I know uma thurman was at magic kingdom over the summer too.

you'll get to see them around!

also they have concerts going on for the food and wine festival. i think the beach boys were just playing. They have celeb speakers for the candel light processional at epcot over christmas. Also for the ABC christmas parade they film in early december will have loads of stars. Gloria Estafan sang the national anthem on 4th july at MK.

i worked with mickey mouse every day ??? does that count ???

Wow loads of celebrities then! Suddenly I wish I was doing operations instead! I forgot about Johnny Depp... there was a thing on the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD about him being there extensively to get photographed for the new Jack Sparrow animatronic and then he either launched it or made a visit to see it anyway.

I bet working in Disneyland California is really awesome coz they quite often premiere films there.

There are also the usual things at mgm like ESPN The Weekend where there are sports stars, the ABC soap star weekend, with all the soap stars, and also Star Wars weekends where you can meet stars from the films, but you have to be there real early to be able to meet them. But they had a parade at about 11am with the stars, so you could see them and take photos of them.

Oh, and of course Play House Disney Live in september/october time where you can see all your favorite stars such as the doodlebops and johnny and the sprites :-X :-[

well, you are in merchandise right? you will still get to see alot of stars. Like my friends were merchandise in the Hollywood Hills area (tower, coaster, fantasmic) and got to see all the stars who go to fantasmic and the ones who road coaster and tower. Aparently they saw steve tyler riding his own ride alot!!

Whilst I was there in 06, I was working as Greeter at Beauty and the Beast and Joey Fatone from N*Sync was stood in front of me. He is always there tho cus he lives in Orlando.

This year whilst i was working Custodial, there were loads of sports players all the time backstage but I never knew who they were.

At the Food and Wine Festival in 06.. my friend served Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and Sarah Jessica Parker walked past her.

Officially you can't change. I am pretty sure that yummy can't do anything about it because it is disney who tells them what jobs people have.
You could always try to contact disney interntaional recruiting to see what they can do. I have a couple of email conacts as international recruiting if you decide to do that. PM me if you want them.
Or you could do merchandise, and you might really end up loving it and make the best friends. If you really don't like it then from what i read on The Hub, you can change after 30 days working in certain situations.

Why don't you want to do merchandise anymore?

Thanks for the tips Mgm. I sent an email to my Yummy representative so will see what she says. If she can't do anything I'll probably just stick with merchandise.

I mostly wanted to change coz I'm working in the Disney Store at the moment as a xmas temp and will probably be sick of merchandise by the time I go in January. Thought it would be good to do something different. Also at my interview I didn't really make a strong second preference. Character performer was my first choice but was told there weren't any positions available at the moment. I was then asked what else I would like to work in. Merchandise just happened to be the first one that came into my head which they probably noted down as first choice because I said operations after.

Then again... they must have studied my CV and thought about what I'd do best in?

I'm not working as a cultural representative in Epcot so it might be easier for them to change me but if not I won't be too bothered. As you said... when I get there I can always request to change after 30 days if I'm really not enjoying it.

I tried changing this summer but i wasnt able to in the end... i have the email address of the guy that says yes or no to whether or not you can change... but if u have signed the contract that says ur doin merch on.. then it will be hard. If they need u in merch, they wont lwet u change unless u have a medical reason.

I haven't had to sign any contracts to do with Disney yet. I've had some forms for the University of Central Florida but that's it so far.

You could have a go at asking yummy and they will see if Disney will need someone in Ops for the dates you are there.

hey what program is it you doing that you go for 6months from january? is it through university? sorry if thsi is a stupid question!!

No worries... no question is stupid! The programme I'm doing is fairly new for international applicants. It's called the 'International College J-1 Academic Programme'. You have to be a recent university graduate or be currently studying a hospitality related degree to qualify... but basically you go out for six months and work in one of the walt disney world resorts, water parks or hotels... then you have classes one day a week at the University of Central Florida to end in a qualification in 'Hospitality Management'. There's various classes you can choose to take and you can pretty much apply for any job role at Walt Disney World.

You also obviously live there in one of the Disney complexes.
