Hi! I was just wondering if someone could give me more information on being in the Candlelight Cast Choir. I've seen the Candlelight Ceremony for the past couple of years and it would be amazing to get to participate in it! I'm applying to the Cultural Representative Program and I have my interview Feb 2nd in Toronto. If I'm accepted I'm not sure when I'll be sent out, but when are the deadlines for the choir? Any info would be helpful! Thanks! - Jenn
Yeah Louisa will help ya out with this one... I think she said that the auditions were in August... Pain in the bum because I'm going in September and it is also something that I really wanted to do!!! I'll tell her you were asking. James ;D
I thought I could feel my ears burning. Yes, as James quite rightly said, the auditions are usually in August (well that's when mine was anyway.) It should tell you on the Hub when they are and at what time you need to sign up. Now depending on your voice part, it will depend on how quickly the 300 spaces for that part will go! When I was there, Alto spots filled up in 1 minute 18 seconds, Soprano's shortly after that, then Bass', and then Tenors actually filled up that year! Took them 3 days to do it though LOL. So when they say 'sign up is at 8am' then you're there, ready to fill in your name and PERNER number, at 8am. I missed the beginning of class to do it; but they didn't mind haha! Rehearsals usually start around the end of September, and you have to attend 10 (though you can attend more) to be able to sign up for shows. You sign up for rehearsals online, but even if you if they are full, you can still go along and see if they have any spaces. There are usually 6 rehearsals a week (two each on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, though sometimes its only on Tuesdays and Thursdays), and the later rehearsals are less crowded, so you have more chance of getting in. The rehearsals are held at Disney Event Productions (it was a request stop on the D bus when I was there, but it may have changed) or you can walk through Port Orleans to it (which is what I did). And if you have a car... well no explanation needed. You can drive there Once you have attended 10 rehearsals, and they give the go ahead, you can sign up for shows. I won't go into this because 1) they'll explain it all anyway, and 2) it'll take forever and things may have changed in the last year. One thing I will say though, they will give you the chance to sign up for a show, and you will definitely be given that one, or at least your second choice. That way, you're guarenteed one show at least. The actual shows start at the end of November, all the way through to December 31st. They're amazing... it's one thing to watch, but being in it is way better. At some point towards the end of the rehearsal schedule, they will have two overnight rehearsals, from about 10pm to 3am. This is so lighting and sound can test equipment (you get to be high school kids....woo!). However, you do get two complimentary park hopper tickets (valid for a year) for each overnight rehearsal you do. Also, for every show you do, you get one complimentary park hopper ticket (very handy to keep if you have friends or relatives visiting in the next few months!). I hope that helps! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask... as you can probably guess, I love talking about anything Disney Louisa x
Wow! Thanks so much! So it's just a sign up process or are there auditions after that? It sounds incredible and I wouldn't have thought that they'd give you tickets for doing it (I was quite content to sign up for free!). I hope if I get to go I'm there before August!
Nope, no auditions (though I personally think there should be, the alto next to me in one show was tone deaf :-X, but I as there are 1200 CM's in the choir (although only 70 perform per show) then I suppose that would be too hard!), and I was the same! Quite content to do it just for the experience. I didn't even use my tickets!
No auditions you say, maybe I should join then! I don't have much of a singing voice, but I love to sing! And I believe it must be very special to be in it
do you know how many altos it takes to change a lightbulb? (this was told to me by my old choir master)
just in case anyone wanted to know... How many altos it takes to change a lightbulb? Two: one to change the lightbulb and one to complain about how high it is. it made me laugh, but i have a very strange sense of humor!
Haha that's so funny and so true Think I might tell that to my singing teacher.... he likes corny jokes LOL
this is amazing! i found people with the same (geeky) sense of humor as me - Disney is so for me, it's crazy!
Nope, just in August...you can always audition for ENCORE (the cast choir and orchestra) in May though (at least its around this time). Slightly harder to get into as you have to actually audition and there are far less spaces. Also, if you get in you have to attend 3 evening rehearsals a week (sometimes on a Sunday too depending on how many people can't do the evenings) for quite a few weeks. Hopefully if you've been working in one location for a while you can ask managers for early shifts and such (I had just moved to the Jungle and had to turn it down I was gutted, but understood that I couldn't be given early shifts!). Hope this helps! If you don't get to be in either Candlelight or ENCORE, at least go and see them. Even though I've never seen either of them as a guest, they are amazing shows! Louisa x
Has anyone heard when the auditions will be this year? I arrive Aug 19th and I am wondering if I will just miss them.
