Hey all, I'm starting in september, and I was just wondering what it's like working in the Canada Pavilion. Thanks
Sorry I don't have an answer, since i'm the process of applying... but I'm curious.... when did you apply that you're only starting in Sept? I figured the ppl applying now would be in the batch going then.... is the wait longer than I thought????
Yeah the people that are going now are mostly for spots in about Aug-December. However he/she could have applied at the last interviews and might not have been able to go until about that time period and they will try to accomodate those kinds of requests.
I applied in september...I think...had the interview in October....and just found out a few days ago that I was going....but I was on a waiting list.
OOOHhhhh ok, that makes a bit more sense...... i thought you got a spot right off the bat... and i was gonna say... holy geez.... that's a crazy long wait! I wonder when they're planning to send ppl who interview in April... i figured those would be the ones going during the Sept- Dec time period...
Based off the interviews last year at this time, the upcoming interviews will be for the Aug-December period.
oh ok cool.... i'm still slightly confused..... cause if they already have ppl to send over during that time, which i think you said,..... then i thought it would be later BUT.... i won't argue... lol... the sooner i get the chance to go, the better!
Yeah basically they were not recruting for then but if people at the last interviews could only go then they were not going to say Oh well too bad we cant send you when you want to go ya know
well, i can't tell you what working at the canadian pavillion's like, but i can tell you the candian parties rock! best parties around! at least they were 6 years ago, and from what i here, still are! so there#s something to look forward to! good luck ith your application!
Ahhhh ok... now the pieces are all falling into place! lol.... Well hopefully they'll accommodate me too.... as in, leaving the next day... heheh... kidding!!!
lol well last year I know someone who was in Florida 3 weeks after the interviews. They were very up front saying if you can leave immediatly for a position in 3 weeks let us know. So it is possible they have spots for you to leave quickly.
I see that no one has answered your question yet! I worked in the Canada Pavillion in 2004-05 and it was the best year of my life! I went down with no idea of what I was getting into and I would go back in a flash if I could. I worked in Merch and the atmosphere is a little more relaxed there than in Foods, but I had friend in Foods who were just as happy. You will come back home with amazing friends from all over Canada and all over the world and you will have an above-average respect for Canada too! Some people don't love it as I read in some of the posts, but it was the best time ever and I've never had a job that would even compare to the one I had at the Canada Pavillion. The hours can be long and the guests can be annoying at times, but you make the best of it. I had family/friends come and visit me every month, so I had time off all the time and enjoyed things other than work. I don't know what it's like now, but it probably hasn't changed all that much. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions! Cheers!
I was down there the same time (Hi Heather!!!!) and I agree 100%. The pay in merch was crappy and many of the guests were downright annoying but even still it was the coolest year of my life. It was still the funnest job I've ever had and I will never regret going down there. The best part is the peole you meet. I expected to make international friends, I didnt' realize how many awesome Canadians I'd end up meeting too. ~*~Linda~*~
Yeah Linda! You made cool friends...but I was by far the coolest! Haha...I didn't know you were creeping around here on WDWIP. I go on at work because my work blocks most other fun sites, but they haven't yet discovered this one! Whoop! You always sign on to MSN with the craziest names, but you're always MIA. How have you been? 8)
Thanks, that actually does help a lot...It's great to have another insiders perspective. Did you go on any vacations while you were there? ...Or with working in merch. did you have enough extra cash to go on vacation anywhere?
My friends and family were crazy from Canada and I literally had someone come down to see me ONCE a month! So yeah, I was luckyenough to have time off every month to see my friends/family. Not a week every time, but I was able to get a few days here and there. I've heard that since then they've been a little more strict, but the managers are usually good with helping you out when they can for time off if you need it. Money is tight in merch but it really depends on your life style. I was always shopping and doing stuff so I was always poor. I went to Miami a million times, went on a cruise, went to Clearwater alot...etc. I also rented a car like once a week to get off those crappy buses. You do have money to live and still do fun things. It's not as bad as they say really. There were times when you had to watch what you spent, but I can happily say that I didn't borrow money from my parents once so that's a good sign, but I know some people did.
Hey everyone. I'm actually heading down on March 27th to work in Merch. I'm pretty excited and nervous. If you don't mind my asking...i'm a little concerned with the money issue and i was wondering if you had saved up anything before you went and if so about how much? Were you able to transfer money from your account at home? (Locklear - or anyone else that wants to answer). I'm pretty good at penny pinching Oh, and how was the cruise, because that's something i'm definitely interested in doing.
Ah! Hey Ashley! Man... I swear, the phrase "It's a small world" is so under-rated. The world is MUCH TOO MUCH too small! Haha! Anyway! I'd also like to know how much money I'd need - I can live off of very little, a little something I'm proud of (ha!) but when I'm tempted by all that discounted merch and high class dining, oh my... I forsee a lot of bankruptcy in the near future!
Well I took about 500 dollars down with me when I went on my program and even with buying souvineers it lasted me just long enough to collect my first pay cheque. I've heard if you have an account with RBC you can transfer your account to a US account and use it down there but since I don't have one yet I can't tell you for sure how true that is or how it works.
I honeslty went down with nothing! When I got the call from Disney, they were under staffed and wanted me in 2 weeks....I had 2 weeks to get ready! I used my savings to pay for my insurance & flights cause they were last minute and sooo expensive and I honestly went down with like $200. I bought groceries and bedding, etc. and then lived off my pay cheques from there out. Its really not all that bad. I'm sure if I didn't buy clothes or go to the bar twice a week and all that stuff, I would have saved money, but my motto was I'm only down here for a year and I just did it all. The cruise was amazing...I was on the Disney Wonder and as a cast member if you wait until last minute you can get on soo cheap! I only paid like $400 for a 5 day cruise and all your meals, tips, grats, everything were included! I had a CIBC account and I was able to use my bankcard at most places in the states so once I emptied that one out, I had my US account up and going so it wasn't a problem. You might just want to double check with your bank before you leave. I also don't think it will be a problem to transfer money if you wanted to do that. They say you should come down with a couple $100 to get you started because if I remember correctly you have to pay your first week's rent or something and a few other things. Also, I know it's not a lot, but I didn't go home too poor, I still had about $1000 USD from my last few pay cheques saved up. But some people did go home in debt...but I ate soup and rice for a year! ;D
