    Hey

I was wondering if any Canadians who have or are planning on driving down to Orlando know the cost of registering and licensing a car for the year.

I am bringing my car too and i found another question on here that helped if u just scroll down a bit. You can also just look up the Florida DMV for all that kinda info. So im guessing ue gonna get a Florida driving liscence?? I heard we can only drive on our liscneces for 6 months.

Well, i've been looking on the Florida websites and haven't been able to get a clear answer. I think we have to pay a large amount of tax on the car which i don't know if it is worth it. I would love to have a car, but i'm wondering if it would just be cheaper to rent a car for a day or two at a time.
I'm going to call SGI (license place where i live) and see if they have anythign to say about it.
I was planning on getting a Florida license an from what i've read we can get it for a year, which is perfect. I think it is fairly easy for Canadians to get a drivers lisence, as we are considered non-immigrant so basically we just need to show our passport and our current Canadian lisence.

When are you going down? Which program and are you in f&B or merch?

Hey Guys, I already posted this under another thread but I thought it might help!!!!

I did the program in 2004-2005 and I brought my car with me (I'm from Ontario). When I got there Disney had no problem with my plates or registration but the housing company did. Turns out that you are not allowed to park in The Commons (or any of the housing complexes) without American insurance, registration AND a Florida drivers liscence (the liscence is easy, they don't make you write a test or anything). They gave me a temporary pass for the first week and a bit so I could get all of my car stuff in order (luckily my Dad was with me, and my brother was doing the program as well, so they were able to help me figure it all out). I am going again for the CRP in July and I'm frustrated b/c I have to go through the whole process again b/c I have a new car.
However, once you get the ball in motion it doesn't take long. It's just extremely frustrating.
And I don't remember it costing anything for a parking pass....but I may be mistaken.
However, don't let any of this deter you from taking your car b/c it is GREAT to have a car down there.
    Hope this helps!

Ok, I'm trying to find out as much information as possible about bringing a car, but I still have some questions and concerns.

I don't currently have a car, so I'm considering buying one (I'm just graduating University). When I buy my car I have to prove I have insurance. According to my dad you can't just buy a couple months of insurance, you need to buy it for the year. According to the research we've done in order to register your car in Florida you need to have insurance from a Florida insurance agent. Would this mean that I'd need to pay twice the insurance?

What have other people done? As much detail as possible would be appreciated!
What are the costs of registering the car, and what do you need to do (or have done) to register?
Do you have to change license plates?
Is there a cost to getting the new drivers license?
Where did you get your insurance?
What kind of insurance did you get?
When you return to Canada what was the process to register the car, and change the license plates? Was it expensive?

Like I said, any information would be helpful!
