Canadians applying in July?

My name is Laura, and I just graduated from University. After two visits to WDW in less than a year (and about 14 visits in total), I have decided to apply for the CRP! Just wondering if there are any other canadians that will be sending in their applications shortly? I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find the answers to:

    1) What if I don't have a latest date I can start? My future is kind of up in the air right now!
    2) CV or resumé? I have both, and there are templates for both on Yummy Jobs...
    3) Is there a specific date in July that my application has to be in by?

I'm sure I'll think of more, but I'm hoping to meet some people in the same boat as me :)

Hey there Laura! No worries! You're not the only Canadian applying for the first time in July. I'm hoping to get in too. I'm going into my second year of college so I'll be graduated by June 2012. I've been researching for quite a while so maybe I can help with these questions.

    1) I think it would be good if you put some kind of date. I'm probably going to put July 2012 because I graduate in June. So unless I get another job offer for full-time work I'll be heading out at that time. You just have to take a chance. If you can't do the date you put in all you have to do is tell them and I'm sure they'll try their best to help you. If you don't put in a date they'll give you some random time that maybe you can't do. You'd probably be given the times that other people haven't asked for.
    2) I'd say either one will do. Mine will probably include a little of both. I've always done resume's so it'll probably look a lot like that structurally.
    3) They haven't come out with an actual date yet but I do know it's in July. I've heard July 20th it starts but don't take my word on it! It'll probably be open for a few weeks giving you enough time to submit your application.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Nicole!

Thanks so much for your help and I'm glad I'm not the only one on here ;)

What are your preferences? F&B/Merch/Attractions? I would take any of them, but merch/attractions are probably tied first for me. I have more experience in F&B, but I want a change :)

I've done the program march 09-10 and will be starting my second program in august.

I don't remember being asked for a latest date you can start. I also just put the earliest I could possibly start, and I was given the first date going out (I'm pretty sure) from our interviews in March. The less restrictions you put on your start date the better in my opinion, although they definitely won't give you a date before you say you can go (ie. if you have to finish school or attend a wedding)
I posted my resume. They look for experience more than they use to apparently.
I would apply as soon as you are ready and they you'll at least have the ball rolling. Kristen at Yummy Jobs is super nice and pretty good at replying to emails quickly.

As for merch/attractions/f&b - there are way more positions available in food and beverage than in the other two. From our interviews the only people given dates right away were F&b and everyone else was wait listed or not even that. There is also way more money to be made in f&b if you have any school loans, car loans or anything like that you need to pay off, or anything in the future you'd like to save for. Clearly you're not going down just for money (I never thought about the money before I went the first time) but it can definitely make a difference.

Good luck with the process!! It feels like you're always waiting waiting waiting and then when you finally get the call or email offering you a position you completely forget how long you waited and are just so incredibly happy! I have a blog from both of my interview processes if you want to check it out, it has all the questions I was asked, how long it took between, things like that! Plus of course my first program :) www.kate-at-disneyworld.blogspot.com

No prob, Laura! And I'm the same as you. I know there are more positions in F&B, like Kate said, but I'd feel better in Merch or Attractions. I dunno but I'm not that good around food. :D I've also heard there may be positions in Guest Relations? I don't know if anyone in the cultural rep program got that position before but I wouldn't mind that one either if it were available for us.

And by the way, Kate, I love your blog! Good luck on your second program!

Thanks for the help, Kate! I've read a bit of your blog before, I think it was linked to another blog I have been reading... And I love it too!!

I have a lot of flexibility with my start date, I could leave tomorrow if they wanted me too :p (Well... I don't have the documents etc. that I need, but you get what I mean :p)

My only reservation at this point is leaving home for a year. I just finished university, but even then I was only an hour away from home. I've been living on my own for five years, but Florida is a lot farther away :p I have a pretty good life here haha with my apartment, cat and boyfriend haha I'm assuming I'll get over it if I'm accepted... Just what I'm feeling right now.

Also, where do you go to register at yummy?

Well you can create your profile by going to their homepage and there is a button on the right hand side that says "New To Yummy Jobs? Create your profile here!" but I'm not sure how to actually apply for the CRP. I think there will probably be an "apply now" button on the CRP page when they start accepting the applications.

Okay so I have registered and applied at YJ, just wondering if I still need to mail in the application that I printed off this site?

I only did the application online. I didn't mail anything and everything went well. If you want to send your application by snail mail as well, for your own peace of mind, go ahead. No harm.
