I really want to bring my car with me, but am worried about the costs that go along with it down there. Can anybody tell me around what they are paying for car insurance?? And does it cost to get a parking spot in the complexes?? Thanks!!
You can use your Canadian insurance and lisense plates and nobody should say anything. If you want american insurance its pretty similar to what you would pay at home...all relative depending on what you drive. You can park for free at chatam(5 min walk). To get a pass for parking in the commons its like 20 or 40 dollars, I can't remember. You'll need to go to the dmv to get a florida drivers lisense though, they will just exchange your canadian one. If you can, definatley take your car. Waiting for buses and getting groceries is a pain.
Hey Lindsay, I did the program in 2004-2005 and I brought my car with me (I'm from Ontario). When I got there Disney had no problem with my plates or registration but the housing company did. Turns out that you are not allowed to park in The Commons (or any of the housing complexes) without American insurance, registration AND a Florida drivers liscence (the liscence is easy, they don't make you write a test or anything). They gave me a temporary pass for the first week and a bit so I could get all of my car stuff in order (luckily my Dad was with me, and my brother was doing the program as well, so they were able to help me figure it all out). I am going again for the CRP in July and I'm frustrated b/c I have to go through the whole process again b/c I have a new car. However, once you get the ball in motion it doesn't take long. It's just extremely frustrating. And I don't remember it costing anything for a parking pass....but I may be mistaken. However, don't let any of this deter you from taking your car b/c it is GREAT to have a car down there. Hope this helps! ~Emily~
