    Hey all,
I am so excited to get out to florida, only a little longer.
I just had a question mainly posed to the Canadians, dealing with phone and cell phone.
What kind of a plan are you on and how much does it cost. Obviously the long distance calls to family at home and friends can get pricey but is there a decent plan to use?
Thanks for your help and I can't wait to participate in the magical world of Disney!
    Always,
    Rach

    Hey OttawaChikky,
I heard that T-mobile is really a great company and from what i've looked into the cheapest..cause with all of our other expenses (mainly shopping) it needs to be less pricey. I've also heard that you can go on a family plan so a few people could share a plan with a bunch of phones on that same plan. Cool hey?

my parents have their home phone through bell and are getting unlimited long distance. i have gotten a family phone home card which lets you call a 1-800 number and then you enter a pin # then the phone # from anywhere in the states and canada. the charges then go on my parents phone bill so i can call whenever for free to them. a wonderful thing to have if your parents or whoever have a good long distance plan or are willing to pay to hear your voice.

    Just a couple of things...

I had a Bell cell at home when I left and I too put the contract on hold. My mom called about it the other day to do that to hers and they told her you couldn't do it anymore cause it costs them too much money. Stupid...hope you can still get yours done, it makes life so much easier.

The Bell Call-Me cards or whatever they are called aren't the best option. I think they can cost up to 75 cents a call...which is expensive. Your best option is to call home collect and have whoever is at home REJECT the charges and then call you back. That's what I did and it worked great.

I had a cell phone in Florida. I never used it to call people down there. It was with AT&T and I had a North America plan which gave me a bazillion long distance minutes to use anywhere in Canada or the US...or even Puerto Rico if I felt the need to call there. It was great because my family could find me whenever I wanted (only if you want to be found 24/7) and I could call home on my breaks at work or on the bus. Sounds great...yes. Big pain in the ass..yes! The billing system for AT&T was crap. They couldn't take my Canadian credit card (after they told us they could) so my mom had to send them money orders each month (that was the deal, that she'd pay it so she could always find me...not cheap...about 50-60 bucks a month). We had to sign a year contract, but I didn't get it until I'd been there a couple of months, so I had a couple of months of overlap once I returned home. I could still use it back here in Toronto with no extra roaming charges...which made it great to call my boyfriend still in Florida or Disney friends in BC...BUT...they couldn't send my last bill to me here in Canada because they can't mail across the border (?!?!!?), so I couldn't pay it and we ended up fighting with them and a collection agency. Got messy, but eventually all got sorted. Sorry, this is long, but if you get a cell make sure you ask all these stupid questions first (and make sure the person knows what they are talking about ie...not the red headed guy at the ATT booth at the Florida mall!!!!!!!). You don't really need a cell for everyday use down there. It was just a great deal for long distance because my mom liked to know she could get a hold of me 24/7.

I think there is another company that does this type of plan...you may want to check it out. OR...just get phone cards...they are the cheapest option.

Apparently, if you are still on a contract, then you can't suspend it. BUT, if you are done your three years or whatever and so essentially on month to month, you still can. Maybe see if one of your friends or family can suspend theirs and use yours instead? Find someone who wants to rent a phone for a year? Dunno. Sorry. Yeah Bell is crap, but they pay my Daddy's pension and put food on my table, so I always have to use them. GRRR!
