Hey All, I was just wondering what everyone is doing about medical insurance coming from Canada? Has anyone looked into it yet? What kind of prices are you getting and what kinds of plans/coverage are you going to be getting? I'd look around the internet myself and make a bunch of phone calls but I bet you super cute keeners have already done it. Help me out and tell me what you've found! ~ Allan 64 Days to Go!!!!!!!!
We are responsible for providing our own medical coverage for our first four months. However, Disney's coverage, I have been told, is minimal. In "the land of the free" health care is not. It is look at as a business and not a social service. This is called privatized heath care. I would recommend getting insurance covering your entire visit for at least one million dollars.
Hmm Mara reccomended me a company that seemed relatively cheap and it was tried and true (I think her roomie broke her ankle and was on this insurance and was well taken care of!) biut I wrote it down somehwere and then I moved... haha, but I'm sure I have it somewhere written down online. Once I find it I'll get back to you! Jeez, I have to start sorting that out! Haha!
Thanks AshleyDawn. Today I checked with CAA and found for 5 months with no deductable and 5 million coverage a price of $245. I checked Travel Cuts and the best they could do was $750!!! My Dad has advised me to check with Blue Cross also. The big thing about insurance, as I was advised by CAA, is to check who pays upfront and who wants to reinburse. He said that most companies will not pay for your hospital bills until after you have paid them and then they'll pay them back. If I end up with a double cardiospopy biopsy radiology hematoma (all random and incorrect medical jargon) I don't want to be paying for it first and then getting the money back after I put in my claim Allan
As a Canada Merch oldie (2004-05), I highly reccommend getting insurance where you don't have to pay upfront. I couldn't afford bottled water at times, so you don't want to worry about paying medical bills and waiting for a reiumbursement. And yes, Disney's coverage is pretty ghetto so if you're one of those people who often gets ill or visits the Dr, I'd get a better coverage. I had the Disney Insurance and never put it to use, but I remember hearing horror stories about someone who was bit by a snake at the Commons and had to call an ambulance and she had to pay like $2000 US. Good Luck!
Hey! I went with CAA and it was about $245. It covers almost everything, but luckily I haven't needed to use it *knock on wood*. It seems pretty good. Disney's insurance plan, I heard, isn't too bad. But who knows, you don't have to worry about that for awhile.
