    Heyo

I was thinking about buying a cellphone, but there seem to only be phones with 2 year plans.. Aren't there any phones with 1 year plans? Or is it better to just buy "burners" (phones with x-amount of $ on them to call for, then throw it away)?

    Thanks

You definitely don't need a contract. The only thing is that you will have to buy your phone. Meaning like $500 if you want an iPhone!!!

Check out the following companies for prepaid and no contract plans:

Virgin Mobile ( virginmobileusa.com ), Metro PCS (metropcs.com) and as well as AT&T and Verizon.

I was looking at a plan with Virgin that is $19.99 a month for unlimited texting, and 10 cents a min for talk. I text way more than talk. Or with Metro PCS you can get unlimited everything, including international long distance for $50 a month. No contract or anything. I found last time I had a prepaid phone, it cost me quite a bit. A no contract monthly plan is better.

You can get a decent phone for less than $50 with most of these companies, especially Virgin.

    Hope this helps.

I think you need to buy one of their phones to use....it's not a GSM network. It's CDMA, meaning their phones don't use SIM cards.

ya i realized that as soon as i posted that! lol
seems like the only network that carries bolds is at&t (which seems weird to me) and thats a 2 yr contract. dang!!

I haven't even been accepted yet but all this cell phone business is interesting to me. So, with metropcs, I can have everything unlimited including international calling for $50/month?? Now, is there a system access fee on top of that? And is that prepaid or is it a month-to-month plan where I get a bill in the mail? Also, being Canadian, is that an issue when purchasing a cell phone on anything other than prepaid? btw that is a really really great price. I work for Telus here and I wish we had a plan like that lol! :p

I just go for the $19.99 unlimited calls, coz its free to call other people off the apartment phone anyway, even to mobiles..I normally just shot that on every month, otherwise its $3 a day now I think for that unlimited talk to other mobiles, so works out at $90 a month, which is a bit steep, you could get an iphone contract for that!! haha.. ;)

with the prepaid text packages you buy a phone card from walmart or wherever and then you ring up 611 and buy a text feature package...i'm currently on 1000 texts a month which is $9.99

I'm with T-Mobile prepaid and I absolutely love my phone. I've come to find though that if you actually talk on the phone it's not that cheap but if you just text it's good. I'd recommend T-Mobile. I did a lot of comparing and apparently if you're a big texter, T-Mobile, AT&T and Virgin are the best.
