ummmm im not sure lol i usually get mine from hsbc or post office but i havnt checked their rates. i think when it says $2 that is a business rate or something complicated like that so we get it for slightly less. if anyone finds its for $2 tho let us know!

marks may be selling for profit and cheating you. best try the post office as they don't do commision.

posties is 1.89 marks is 1.91. i generally use marks they are commision free too and they have one of the highest rates. wnet with them last year too got like 1.89 in august - some other places were like 1.86!

$2 could be for buying them, which is usually higher than the selling rate- could be a reason the selling rate's not quite there yet?

ive been watching the rate for last couple of months (sad i know!) and its not really dropped belowe 1.86 and the highest ive seen is about 1.919 i cant see it make a HUGE different to u unless ur taking out a lot more than 2000£ worth of $ -theres only a couple of dollars difference in it like maybe 5-10 difference. now if ur taking 10000£ of dollars then ud be looking for the best rate lol

£1=$2 is the official buisness rate i think, the tourist rate we can buy at is a bit lower depending on how much comission they charge, usually best at marks!

it can also be a different rate for cash as opposed to traveller's cheques as opposed to visa payments. it's crazy how the money market works! I never understand it...

buying the dollars has a different rate. when they say it has passed the $2 mark it means that when we go out there if we buy something for $50 then it will be £25. It basically means whatever we spend out there will work out to be exactly half in terms of its dollar to pound value

    Hope that makes sense

Isn't it best to take your credit card with you and pay with it or you use your card and get money out of a cash point in the US? I thought that`s the best way. At least that's what my bank clerk told me for my holidays.

that will cost you a fortune. Thats called a cash advance, and if you do that with a UK CC you get charged a small fortune everytime you do it. I really wouldnt recomend that at all!!!!

Actually it depends on who you're banking with. I know Nationwide don't charge me for using my debit card or for taking money out, and you get the best rate of exchange doing that (I'm guessing you get business rate rather than Mark's 'selling price' or whatever). Definitely worth checking your bank's policy before you get out there anyway :)

yeah if you use your debit card its ok - altho you will prob get charged like $2 to withdraw cash but if you use a CREDIT card to take cash out of a ATM you will be hammered for it,its the same if you do it in the UK,you get charged for taking cash out and it comes up on your bill and the end of the month.
