Hey all. Are cast members allowed to bring guitars with them? I really want to bring mine if I get it.
how did u guys handle packing for going, if i get in (fingers & toes crossed) i will be out there for a year! how do you pack for a year!!!! what is the baggage allowance? laura x
baggage allowance varies by airline - i'm flying with virgin and can have 2x suitcases at 23kg each and 1x handluggage at 5kg. some are more some are less. i'm on the year program - not sure where to start with packing - but don't forget things are fairly cheap in the states so should be ok
I was thinking that If i was you I'd buy a guitar over there with the exchange rate it would be cheaper aswell
If you fly from Gatwick (and I'd imagine other BAA airports), musical instruments can be taken on as extra pieces of handluggage, no matter the size. Unless of course you plan on bringing a set of drums or a grand piano! It's always wise to check the airport website, the airport authority AND your airline. The airline can tell you what you can have on the plane, but they have no idea what you can take through security, so check with the airport as well. (I work at LGW at security and have so many problems with airlines not knowing the rules; it really winds me up when they tell passengers they can have two bags, but fail to mention that thats for the airplane only, not through security where it's only one bag.)
I was going to bring my guitar, but due to the difficulties in airport security, and the effect of the humidity and climate on the body and neck of the guitar, i have decided it will be much safer to pick up a second hand one over there. There are plenty of shops and the guitars are already used to the climate so are in no danger of warping JON1X303
I did the international college program this summer and if I was going out doing it again, I would take hardly anything with me. All you need is toiletries, professional clothes for disney uni and maybe 3 or 4 pairs of casual clothes. I bought so much stuff whilst I was over there that I had to buy an extra suitcase to bring it all back and I was still overweight. That was after I had binned a load of things as well! I hardly wore most of the clothes that I took out because I was wearing my work costume most of the time so save all your luggage space for stuff that you will buy over there. Clothes are dead cheap in America anyway.
Totally echo this, not long after I arrived out there for the Cultural rep programme I wasn't wearing many of the clothes I took with me - was spending all my waged in Hollister and A&F (!!) and thats pretty much all I wore!! I know it's easy for me to say this now but I know at the time I wanted to bring everything with me and was worried about the weight limits too, just try not to worry about it too much, you'll be able to pick up anything and everything once you get to Fl -esp as it's all so much cheapere there than it is here!! M xx
I wanna get a cheap Guitar there (coz I dont really wanna take it on the plane) what happens when I finish the program and dont wanna take it with me....do new recruits tend to buy stuff like tv's and guitars off ya?
You can advertise around the complexes, or if the worst comes to the worst, you can put it in one of the donation boxes they have at the end of programs.
