I'm sure there is a topic about this but i couldn't seem to find it... I was just wondering about how far in advance you can book off time and if you need a super legit reason? Some friends are coming down in august and we want to go to the keys for a week on RCi (aka free hotel!) but we have to book it really soon, so if we book the hotel will i most likely be able to get the week off by asking asap when i arrive in march or is it a big risk?
I arrive early february & my birthday is the end of april...I was gonna ask straight away for that weekend off as I wanna hit some clubs in Miami. I'm pretty certain march for august is a reasonable amount of time.
even if you dont get all the days off you need for that week, (weekend in stu's case) you can always switch shifts with someone else. then you are sorted. as far as i know you can only get 4 days off at once. and then they must fall over 2 weeks shifts. for instance the last 2 days of week 1 and the first 2 days of week 2. i really really really want to go to warped tour. so if i work that day im gonna have to pull some strings aswell!!
In terms of getting your four days in a row, it has to be Friday-Monday, as Disney weeks start on a Sunday, though generally getting weekends off can be a struggle and may be rejected. Similarly asking for the day off when the park has Extra Magic Hours (open 1hr early or 3 hrs later for Disney hotel guests) can be more difficult as the park is more busy requiring extra staff. EMH tend to fall on the same days each week for each park - rotating two parks each day (one morning, one evening). You can request this online on 'the hub' (Disney CM portal). I'm not so sure on this, but I think that once you've been there 3 months (might be longer - perhaps 6?) you can request unpaid days off to go somewhere. After your first week the two days you usually get off each week will generally remain the same (major holidays may interupt this). If you find a willing person you can switch shifts with them - just ask your manager, also I think you're meant to be able to give up shifts to switch on the hub, though the effectiveness of this seemed shaky. Of course if all else fails and you 'have' to be away you can call in sick/personal, though this will go on your record as a point, too many of which could lead to reprimands (1st is a like a slap on the wrist - not literally!) or if continued, getting fired. If you know you're managers well enough and have built a rapport it may be nice to let them know beforehand you're going to call in, so they're prepared. Personally I never did this (didn't get any points over my summer ICP), but saw others letting their manager know in advance. If any of this is wrong feel free to correct me.
I think that because i'm away from home for the year, i don't think i would need any special days off. I'll be happy to celebrate birthdays/ Christmas the same time as my UK CRP mates are. I have to say i'm really looking forward to celebrating Thanks Giving. Something new i guess
Oooh i was thinking about all this i arrive june 9th and my birthday is june 21st so i dont think i got any chance aah
I'm booking my birthday off when I arrive; I arrive in Feb and my birthday is in December...plenty of time! I did this last time and got it off straight away. But that was in the ye olde days when you had to submit requests by paper and you could actually go to see your scheduler! Then you could try to request it off as many times as you wanted. Life was simpler then. However, there may always be people who want to swap shifts. I'm not sure how difficult this is in the pavilions, because obviously only the CM's from that country can work there.
I'm still deciding whether i'd want my Birthday off work. Guess it depends whether all your friends are off or working that day too
Well you bully them into booking it off as well I want to hire one of the boats in Epcot to watch Illuminations for my birthday....I think it would be a great end to a special day!
I know!! It's though finding things special to do that I haven't already done....though hanging out with any of you guys on my birthday would be enough LOL...
how long were you in florida last time louisa? i bet you know some pretty awesome not-as-common things to do
11 months! I got to do some pretty awesome things like singing in Candlelight, and doing the Kim Possible World Showcase adventure thing preview, and doing a Behind the Scenes tour of the Haunted Mansion....oh and going to DC to represent the College Program at a conference...that was brilliant. And that's just the start!...
Haha no.... that was a one off...we were at a conference about universities sponsoring foreign students to come to the US to do a work/study placement.
LOL it was a conference about universities getting interested We were there representing both the college program and Central Michigan University....I don't know if any universities decided to try any of the programs businesses had on offer.
