Well from my personal experience I'm glad I waited because
    a) like you said- i don't need to worry about being terminated for underage drinking
    b) my first few weeks at uni i was quite homesick, and that was only a few hours from home- I think I would have hated it 1000s of miles away
    c) uni has given me so much more self-confidence
    d) i don't have any ties that mean i have to come back for uni- if i want to go travelling/meet someone there, than i don't have to worry

Can't think of anymore- like I said- these are my personal ones- might not count for you! ;)

thanks charlotte that helps quite a lot!
the wait is gonna kill me tho, it's such a long time to have to wait! another question... when u apply for the international program do u have to work in epcot or could u be placed in any park?

For the international programme you have to work in epcot- because you're there on a special visa so that you can represent your country. However, in the summer they've brought back the college programme, so you could do that whilst you're at uni- its 3 months and you can work in any of the resorts/parks and theres also a lifeguarding one!

ok so if i were to do the summer programone during uni i wouldn't have to wait as long. altho afer 3 months i know it would be really hard to have to go back and finish uni! shame they don't do interviews all year round because then i could just apply for my gap year instead!

I'd have to agree with my good friend Charlotte about the benefits of waiting til uni's over....

Compared to now, I'd never have had the confidence to go straight after I finished A-levels...and I don't think I'd have done too well with leaving home for that long, being that far away.....going to uni was a good way to wean myself away from home!!

I also don't reckon I'd have been very enthusiastic to have gone to uni after I got back either...I'm glad that I have, as Charlotte said, nothing to tying me down meaning I HAVE to come back (well, I will cos of the visa, but you know what I mean!!)

I think trying for the college program would be a good start, cos then, as far as I know, you can do the IP as well, so technically you'd get to go twice!! :D

Hope this helps...and GOOD LUCK with whatever you choose to do....

Also, did you know there's another girl on here called Steph, who's screen name is also disney dreamer!?!?! How weird!?!?

im the other side of this coin! lo sorry ellen n charlotte!!!! hehe
im 18 just doing a levels as we speak (makin me wanna die) ive worked realy hard at school for seven years now and i KNOW i need a break from education and if i went uni nexy year id mes about get in debt etc.....so i did the other option went for disney as a gap year! yey i go inseptember with these two other lovely laydeez!

ive never lived out etc so i duno ow hard it will be and im sure evry1 is different but im quite confident n im sure ill be fine! its a decison only u can make but good luk and heres my final list of pros for wating!!!

    1) going after uni u will have lots of messy debt
    2) u may need to get straight into a career depending on degree
    3) u mite meet the man of ur dreams in uni and never want to go!!!!!
    4) like me u mite just be damn impatient and sik of skool! lol

    good luck whatever u choose! x x x

if i could then i would apply for my gap year but as my birthdays not til may i cnt get an interview in time to go... which really sucks! because im really fed up with school and college as well and just wana go and do something for myself that i wanna do!

i dont think there's a way tht i can get on the program for my gap yr... excpet for taking 2 gap years like charlotte said to me before. which probably wouldnt work anyway because if i didn't get onto the program then id be completely stuffed!

i also have no idea yet what i want to do at uni so the college program might not even fit into what course i take. u guys are so lucky to be going out there and well done for getting in and everything... make sure u write on here everything about it!

    hiya

i don't think i'm gonna help much but i would agree that all these lovely ladiees are saying there are both pros of going before and after.

as i said in another topic i did apply for my gap year but didn't get it so now i'm going to canada and american to take a break from education as i have just had 8 years of secondary ed and need to relaxe a bit before uni.

anyway i have to wait 4 yrs but it will all be worth it and as charlotte said CP is back so i can do that as most courses will allow it.

and your'll get to go twice ;D

on the dept side student loans don't have to be paid back til ur earning £18,000 plus (i think) so you wont have to worry about that after uni as it will only come out of ur wages as tax and u wont pay it back to u are able to!!!

if u meet the man of ur dreams and they no how much u wanna do this they will wait for you if not then it wasn't ment to be (sorry for being a downer on that)

however u may have to go in to a career straight after but that is a risk u may have to take i'm ok as i no i haven't got to due to my degree choice.

anyway hope its helpped seeing as i am in a similare situation to you

everyones been really helpful! thank you! i just cnt figure out which pros outweigh the other ones!

i wana break after college but there's nothing else i wana do in my gap year! i just cant think of anything that i wana do or that will be half as fun as working in disney!

i duno how u can be ok with having to wait so long to go! the wait wil definately be worth it but now that the college program is bk i spose tht means ther wont be such a long wait if u do tht during uni!

i duno whether id be ok with doing the program after uni knowing tht when i got bk i had to get a job and pay off all my debt!

don't look at your student loan as dept as it doens't effect anything u do as its is only really seen as a form of tax (thats wot the LEA told me) and so long as u don't go getting credit cards and store card depts then your'll be ok.

i don't wanna have to wait but i guess its just something i'll have to do.

anyway gd luck with ur decission

how long will ur degree be stu and what u planning on doing at uni

i suppose everybody has to pay back there loan after uni at some point. waiting a year tp pay it bk whilst on the program wont make much of a difference except something else to put on a cv when applying for a job to pay the loan bk!

i think my only realistic option is to do what stu is doing and go to uni first, apply for the summer program and then do the year long program after im finished at uni, as much as i dont wana wait i know im going to have to!

yer that seems ur best option i'm only staying with a gap year before as i cant change my uni entry as they have no room for me this year so i'll take one before and after

but good luck in whatever yopu do
