It can be scary, you don't know whether you will ever fit in with all the crazy people you meet... But before you know it, you're one of them! So my advice is, relax and be yourself. But not too cocky. A Norwegian girl was once extremely cocky upon arrival and that resulted in the others freezing her out... Can't say I'm one of them, cuz she was in Foods, I was in Merch. But her fellow cast members wouldn't talk to her, which was sad, of course, but a result of her cockiness.

But other than that, newbies are cherished, so no need to worry there!

My advice to you is to make lots of International friends. I didn't fit in so well so with my own compatriots, for whatever reason. But you'll see people like them at home. What you won't see is all the people from all corners of the earth living in the same apartment complex as you back home. What's great about it is that you will find them fascinating and interesting, and likewise them with you too.

Trust me, it was the most rewarding aspect of my stay there. I have friends from Italy, Mexico, Norway, Canada and Germany.

And don't give into pressure. Do what you want, spread your wings and make the most of the year.

    Good Luck!

I must agree with the make International friends. I didn't spend that much time with Canadians throughout my year...other than my closest friends. I spent most of my year with UK-ers because my boyfriend was UK. But now I have friends all over the UK which is great.

Being a newbie is tough, but everyone is very welcoming. There are always newbies around. If you go in acting like you know everything, which trust me, you don't...that's what the oldies are there to teach you...then you will have a rough time. In my year, I saw lots of newbies coming in like they owned the place and more than one of them going home because of problems at work or because they didn't like it.

    Kiwin,

I didn't drink either. Alcohol doesn't appeal to me, apart from the odd social drink here and there, like on birthdays and stuff. I won't knock people who drink; if they want to do that, it's up to them.

The way I see it, there is plenty to do in Florida, and the states. You can keep the money saved from not drinking and explore all the theme parks, other cities and attractions also in Florida. I know a lot of people who spent all their money on booze, whereas I saved and managed to do lots of other stuff, including a trip to LA. I made lots of friends still, it's just a case of putting yourself out there and finding them.

You can still go out to all the parties and other gatherings...you don't have to drink at them...it's not a requirement. I went to lots and didn't drink and I went to lots and got wasted. You will find lots of other non-drinkers...but yes, there is lots of drinking!
