I think (assuming I can fit it in!) I'm going to take a cushion and a really thin duvet and covers etc with me - and then buy things like pillows and sheets on the 2nd day. But I quite like the idea of having a duvet to snuggle if I get sick/homesick etc and make it look homey!

i went into woolworths the pther day and bought a thin duvet and pillow set for £3.49, its all rolled into its bag and fits in my case perfectly, im taking it with me cos i no what im like without a duvet, its only thin so should be ok when its hotter, i also bought a new duvet set in there for £5 and its pink and girly like me lol ;D

i bought a cheap set of sheets to take with me. it has the fitted sheet, flat sheet and a pillow case air packed air tight into about 2-3 inches thick. it won't take up much space and although i'm sure won't be the best quality at least i have something between me and my mattress on the first night. one concern though is that i definalty won't be able to squeeze my pillow in my suitcase so i guess i'll have to either rest my head on clothes i bring or hopefully steal a throw cushion from the couch if there is any.

It all depends on what time you arrive on the first day. I arrived around 1pm and you pretty much have the day to yourself. A bunch of us went to Walmart. I bought a couple fo space bags (the ones that you suck the air out of with a vacuum) and brought a fleece blanket, fitted sheet, top sheet and a pillow. Planned on getting a duvet when I got here, but I still haven't got around to it. I haven't been cold at night yet, so I'm not bothered.

Sorry....but what is a duvet?? Can anybody tell me? I'm from Norway and I can't seem to find the word in any of my dictionaries...hehe ;)

Anyway, I'm glad I looked at this page, because I didn't know that we need to bring all of that?! Don't they have anything there for us? Not even a pillow? Well, a pillow could be great to bring for the long flight down there anyway.

How cold do you think it can get there? I'm allways freezing so I need to be prepared ;)

And for you that are allready there....how is the bed? the madrass? I have the most comfortable bed and madrass in the world at home, so I hope it isn't too bad over there? ;)

a duvet is a quilt (which is a thick blanket) u put a duvet cover over the duvet to make it look pretty as they come in plain white ;D

Ok, thanks ;) But doesn't a duvet take quite a huge place if you're bringing it with you to the States?-and isn't it too warm for the climate in Florida?
I was hoping to bring as little as possible with me so it would fit in one suitcase and a bag...I guess that will become a problem now ???

Yeah, a quilt does take up some space... so don't think you'll manage to make it with only one suitcase and a bag...
of course, you could get one of those vacuum thingy's... which sucks out all the air.. then it's not that big...
no, a quilt is not that warm... I use one during summer, and a comforter (dyne) during winter...
of course... summers in norway aren't nearly as hot as in florida...
what you could do is just get an extra sheet... as that's what people use down in southern europe.... I find that really cumfy ;D
but as we get AC in our rooms, a quilt won't be too warm....

I don't think I'll bring more than a sheet and a pillow then. The pillow, I was thinking about bringing anyway for the long flight :D If it's colder than I imagine it would be, I can buy something at Wallmart when I get there.

I think I take my itinerary- pillow, a fleecy pink blanket (+ its case),
a big Pillow with it’s case  and of course a sheet for the mattress with me.
I think the pillow don’t take much space, because there a nearly no plumes inside  :D
I think that’s enough for the first night. What do you think?

I think, if any think left we can buy it all sheep at Wal-Mart at our 2. day ;)

I think I'm just going to get one of those fleecy throw things, that should do me for bedding temporarily. I'm not sure what I'll do about pillows though, maybe just use towels the first day or something until I can buy some? Depends what time we end up landing I suppose. I might get a pillow if I can find somewhere to buy one when we swap planes, I guess I'll see.

I'm used to sleeping with 2 pillows, so I knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep at all if I didn't bring at least one with me. The vacuum bag thingys were one of the best investments I made before I came down here.

As far as the mattresses are concerned, completely not impressed. My bed was terribly uncomfortable when I got here. I bought another pillow and a foam mattress pad. I have made the bed a little more comfortable, but my bed still creaks quite a bit. I may have to invest in another mattress pad.

If anyone is really concerned about not having a pillow or sheets the first night, let me know. I'm sure I can pick up some stuff for a few of you over the next few weeks and you can just pay me when you get here. Bedding is pretty cheap. I think sheets are about $10 and I paid only about $4 for my pillow, I think. You also have the option to buy a bedding pkg from price mgmt for $50, I think. It should've been in your pkg that you got.

    Sandra :)
