    Hi all,

So, apparently, the US single bed is a different size to the UK single bed...

I was just wondering, what are people doing for bed linen? 'Cos if we leave it till we're there to buy them, what do we do the first night... and however many nights we have till we get linens? (I think I read that the mattresses are covered in plastic, so that'd rule out just sleeping on the matress as is...)

Anyone down there have any advice?

    Hey,
You get to go to Walmart the day after you arrive so dont worry too much about linens. I brought a blanket with me when I flew down. Luckily they still gave you linens when I got there so I had those as spares. Sometimes your roomies are a sweet and will offer to let you borrow some but worst case you can go to Walmart. You prob wont sleep much the first night anyway with throw ins and exploring.

Well we weren't given linens when we arrived...

    stoopid ppl

I brought flat sheets with me (and don't actually use them anymore so if anyone wants to borrow them for first nights etc etc...)

and then went to Walmart the next day and got fitted ones.

so are we supplied with duvets and pillows? and we just have to take the covers?

is an american single bigger than in UK - that sounds odd to me, i think i may cry if i have to sleep on a plastic matress with no covers it sounds very uncomfortable

I'm pretty sure no duvet, and maybe a pillow...

I remember a discusson on here about 2 months ago about packing duvets and where to buy them.

Plastic covers might not be too bad, I lived in a residence and I found the plastic cover to be more comfortable than with linens... might just be me though...

they don't supply us with linens.. we can buy them from them for around 70.00 i think it was... best bet is to just go to walmart on your first day!

My question might seem totally stupid to you guys but in germany we only have singel and double beds. how do you call the bed size we will have in our apartments. i was looking only for bed sets and the smallest one is twin size. is that the smallest?

i think the first night or two would be okay without too much in the way of linens... i would be too tired the first few days to care and would probably fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow... even tho there will be no pillow..

what i did once when i went somewhere was take some old bed sheets to use for the first few days until you have a chance to get some new ones.

i don't think i'll bother getting a duvet because whenever i go on holiday to florida i usually just use the thin sheet cos i find thats more comfortable when its so hot. i'll wait till i get there to decide though

    Hey Ana...

No. I remember the topic too and they were just discussing what to do the first night. My suggestion is pack a duvet cover. Its thin enough to pack and you can snuggle in it like a sleeping bag!!

Thats what I sleep in the summer months over here, as I'm a fussy person who has to have something covering me.

Then you should be able to go to Walmart the day after you get there and buy sheets and a duvet ot blanket if you want one.

I took my duvet with me :D

vacuum packed it and squished it into my suitcase last...

customs would have had a surprise if they had opened it!

the rooms have pretty much everything you need, utensils, furniture including a dish washer (yesssssss), you just need to supply your own linens and any electronics you may want such as stereos and tv's... hope that helps
