Bank accounts, credit cards and debit cards in the programs

I'm leaving tomorrow, but still have plenty of doubts about the bank accounts. Someone told me about having a credit card and a debit card while in my program. The idea is to pay everything with my credit card and then every month to pay my credit card expenses with my debit card, so I have a credit historial for later benefits if I want to live in the US.
I was thinking if it is possible to have my debit card with vista FCU and a credit card with suntrust, or what do you guys recommend me?

You have to be a legal permanent resident to get a credit card in the US, so i doubt you'll be able to get one.
