I checked on delta and it says the same. Its caus of the internal flight. there is a weight restriction of 50lbs. Which really sucks as the internationals are 70lbs. Quite a difference!!!!!!!!

I dont think the shape really matters too much as long as its suitcase shape. lol.

Stay strong with the limiting of stuff to take, the more spare space the better so you can get more stuff to take back.

my friend emailed me some info!!!!

Free Baggage policy for international and domestic journeys to and with -in the USA -As Follows;-

Up to 2 bags maybe checked free of charge. Each piece of baggage to be checked without charge cannot exceed a weight of 50 pounds and dimensions of 62 inches, in overall length, width and height.

In addition to this one bag is allowed free of charge as carry-on -

dimensions;- 45 inches Length x 231/2 inches width x 4 inches  height Plus one personal item ;- for example handbag, briefcase, laptop,  small backpack or camera case.  These personal items cannot exceed overall 36 inches.

An extra charge applies for additional  overweight , and/or oversized pieces. In no event will USAIRWAYS accept baggage that weighs more than 100 pounds and/or baggage that in single dimensions more than 72 inches or combined dimensions exceeding 115 inches.

tinks dont worry bout the domestic limit if you're travelling internationally even if u have to connect too its the international limit that counts. As i transferred on us airways twice to a propellor plane with two massivce cases etc.. they dont reweigh them.. same on the way back they count you as international even if u have to connect first. If that makes sense... ive never had a problem with continental nor Us... im sure delta will be the same.

    hello lizziewizzie!!!
    looks like youre also shopaholic!!

jajaja LOL @ your idea of the empty case!!
ive tought about it before, and well.. actually ive done it !!
    jajaja
but.. not completely empty... take in 2 cases what you would take in one!!
therefore when youre coming back, you just put your stuff from the 2 cases into one, and the oher one will be empty and ready to use !!

ive done it soooo many times.. every time i go from cancun to miami or orlando.. jaja :p

or other thing.. you can just buy new suitcases up there.. i did that in europe jajaja.. hope i helped you somehow..

lizzee - i do it all the time u can pack your stuff in one then put that inside the other one (if its bigger of course) another alternative is if u hav family visiting tell them to bring an empty one and they can take some stuff back for u lol ;D

    Love the car idea Lizzie!

I think im just gonna do what i did on exchange ship one box home (its not that expensive) and then have my two suitcases as well and a carry on and give some of the clothes i bought with me to charity, to make way for all the new ones ive accumulated from A and F, hollister etc...... Although i did end up giving loads of stuff away last time my american friends did so well out of me - tv, cd player etc... Hopefully i wont buy so much this time.

    Hey guys,

Don't worry about the weight restriction! 70lbs is a LOT to work with! (Mind you I'm a really light packer - I moved across the ocean for a year with about 15kg of stuff...)

Check out any site that has packing tips and they will usually tell you to lay out everything you want to pack on your bed or floor, and then chuck half of it aside! Clothes are sooo cheap in the US compared to many countries (and their dollar is getting worse! Mwa ha ha!) and explorin' new shops, even if you aren't a big shopper, is fun in new places.

So here are some obvious packing tips (I'm such a nerd for this... I jump on anything that makes my load lighter!):
    • Take stuff with you that you don't care whether you leave it behind. For example, gym t-shirts. They take up room on the way over/down, but you can just bin them at the end of your year and replace them with stuff you have bought.
    • Take shampoo, moisturizer, food etc with you. It goes along with the thing above... They take up space on the way down that will be free-ed up on the way for better things.
    • Wear oodles of layers on the flight over! Once I wore two sweaters and a coat. You can just toss the stuff in the overhead compartment.
    • Get someone else to hold stuff for you while you get your bags weighed... Then, after check-in, stuff even more stuff into your carry on!
    • Wear your biggest, clunkiest shoes on the plane even if they are uncomfortable. I think it's better for you (circulation or something?) to take your shoes off anyway on long flights.
    • Stuff crap into your shoes that you pack. Shoes/sneakers take up lots of space, so you may as well fill your shoes with rolled-up socks, a shirt, etc.

Umm... I'm going to stop now because I'm going to come off as Super Nerd Packing Girl and I can't afford to tarnish any sort of reputation already ;)
