I've had a wee look at the Delta website...this is what we are allowed (London to Orlando)

    Carry on Baggage -
    18kg max
Items cannot exceed 45 inches (length + height + width) limits. (It must fit in overhead or underneath seat in front of you)

You can take this carry on baggage and then a handbag/small bag OR a laptop bag but not both. So only 2 peices of carry on baggage. I am packing my laptop in my 18kg bag then taking my handbag.

    Checked in Luggage -
    2 pieces - 31.5kg max each
(Items weighing more than 31.5kg but less than 45kg will be charged an excess baggage fee.  Items weighing more than 45kgs WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED)
Each item cannot exceed 62inches (length + height + width) limits.

DOUBLE CHECK ALL THIS ON THE DELTA.COM WEBSITE! :)

I sent them an email asking and am waiting for the reply. I want to know if 31.5kg is the total amount we're allowed, or the amount per bag (i.e. a total of 63 for both). I think it's each and my dad thinks I'm an idiot, so I guess we'll see.

Hmmm, I'll have to measure the dimensions of my suitcase though.

Wow - that is an INSANE baggage allowance! Especially considering you don't need to bring work clothes as we'll be spending 40 hrs a week in our beautiful uniforms ;)

Don't take as much stuff as you want just because you can. First time I moved somewhere via plane I had sooooo much stuff (too much!) and didn't even use/wear a third of it enough to actually justify taking it.

My heaviest suitcase was 24KGs......unless you're planning to take everything you own, i very much doubt you'll make the limit!!!

DON'T FILL BOTH SUITCASES!!!! You will accumulate more crap during your year that you will want to take home, so if you are debating a pair of shoes, just think of the much cuter pair you will buy in Orlando and have room to take home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take what you love and MUST have. You will want to buy new stuff anyways and not wear your old stuff!!!!

I thought that- but I think instead I'm going to put the one I was going to to take as hand luggage in my checked luggage (inside a big case- I want it if I go visit places) and take a rucksack instead as carry on!

Yeah I think you have to pay for trolleys over there :-\ but I'm not sure- it might be that you get it back when you return it. You don't have to pay here in the UK either :)

I'm not so worried about getting cases around the airport as I am getting them into our apartments once we get there, god knows how many steps we'll have to pull them up!
