Hi Sean I am heading out for August 19th. To work in the Canadian Pavillion for the year. Going to be so sweet. As for telling the parents I would say just tell them. Mine were thrilled. But sad because I was leaving. If you are honest with them now, there won't be a problem. If you wait and they find out you knew this early, trust me it will make it worse. As for money... I'm not really sure. I'm driving down from Canada so I'll be saving tons doing that. I will probably bring like 700-1000 usd's (that much because i have a shopping problem) If you have any questions about the cost of anything just let me know. Don't be so stressed, just chill and let the good times role. If you wanna chat or anything you can add me to msn hawkers_18@hotmail.com
I'm going down in august for a year too! same place and time as Ash. My parents aren't happy about me going either. I almost decided not to go. but it comes down to doing this for you. they'll come around. I promise. my mom is starting to, and with her my dad is turning too. just tell them and get it over with so they can get used to the idea and come around. they might just suprise you. my msn is little_miss_graceful@hotmail.com
Thank you for your advice, i know it will work out for the best i think that i need to figure out how much to bring with me. i cant believe that i am going to be going to USA for a year. so you two are going to be in the Canada pavilion. great i haven't a clue where i will be working i will find out when i get there. do you know where you will be living? sorry far to many questions i know. thanks again Sean
what program are you doing? that will determine where you are living and where you will be working? the one year cultural rep program is what I'm doing. there's also the international college program. also read some of the survival guide stuff on this website. and the common questions are really helpful. I would bring about $1000 US dollars with you, that way it will cover any incidentals, and things you'll need when you get over there. I'd also bring a credit card just in case. any other specific questions? I'll be happy to answer them if I can
Sean don't worry too much, things will work out. You mom will realise her little boy is going to be moving away for a year, she'll be upset but be thrilled for you. Like Vanessa said you should check out all this website has to offer. Any questions I had have been answered.
thank you one and all, i really do appreciate all of your advice, i am not worrying that much!! OK just alittle but hey, i am doing the academic program all i know is that i am doing 6months in operations and the other 6 months in merch i am trying to muster up around $2000 so hopefully that will be OK, i cant wait to get out there and meet up with all of you lot and meet so many new friends. i cant wait for a year of sun as i am used to a year of rain, i hope that the night life is going to be pretty great also. god talking about it makes me want to go away straight away.... i have added you guys on msn so i hope to talk to you all soon
Yeah you get a year of rain i get 5 months of freezing cold weather and snow, snow and more snow. But yea i can not wait till i get a year in the sunshine. From what I hear the night life is redonculous. Like amazing. Every night of the week there is a different place to go or a different party to go to.
so we are going to party hard then???? hahaha oooohh another thing i cant cook to save my life so any help will be greatly appreciated..
haha I am always down for a part-ay hahha. As for the cooking I can cook rice and I'm sure that one of your roomies will know how to cook.
Sean is right when he says he cant cook! Unless its ramen noodles - you were an expert with those by the end of the summer! And how come you didnt come out to they gay bars wit me sweetie? hehe!!!! Or did you just enjoy it more when i worke you up in the middle of the night when i got home! haha! Least i never took anyone back with me! But then i think Ben might have freaked out if i had!
yes i am the king at making super noodles other than that i am the worlds worst cook. so i will be befriending many people in aid to get a cook meal at some point i know very shallow but it needs to be done. i cant wait tho its a killer that we have to wait so long tho
I am also going August 19th for a year.. working in the UK Pavillion.. still havent found anyone doing the same yet!
lipton makes good suppers from a package! soupworks and sidekicks! YUM... and easy. pretty much impossible to screw up! I'm sure you could master them too!
Got to love the 92 cent ready meals..! Lived off those and chicken & tomato sauce pasta! (Well... and Ben & Jerry's...)
