Ive applied for the year pregramme-im from the UK, and im hoping to go-if i get accepted, in late 0 or early 08. Im just nearing hte end of my uni studies-ill be graduated by July, and im lookin to do this thing now because im not gonna do it when im any older-im just 21 at the mo. I did the summer college prgramme at the end of my first year at uni in summer 05. What do people think my chances are? What are the jobs available in the UK section, what is the accomadation like and where is it? Also what is the process like-for the summer porgramme, seein as it was only 3 months, the process was fairly easy-one initial presentation at uni, handed in CV, an interview in Birmingham and a visit to the US embassy to get the Visa and that was it.

Any info and general stories about what to expect?

    Thanks

hi,ive been accepted into the year long program,i leave at the end of april!!
The process for applying for me went a bit like this...
1.(late August 2006) E-mailed my CV and a cover letter to the team at Yummy Jobs (the UK recruitment team for this program) www.yummyjobs.com for more info!!
I recieved an email back to say that they had recieved my CV and were looking over it....
about 2 weeks later i got another email to ask me to take part in a telephone interview, this was organised for a few weeks later.
    2. (mid September 2006)Phone interview went fine and at the end of the call i was asked to go along to the face to face interviews in Glasgow in november (I live in Scotalnd so thats why i was asked to go to Glasgow)
    3. (early November 2006) face to face interview was fine - there was an hour long presentation, lots of form filling and then the actual interview,we were told we would hear if we had been accepted before christmas!!
    4. (early December 2006) I recieved an email to tell me that i had got a place on the year long program, starting on the 24th April 2007!!!!!

I have to travel over to Belfast to get my visa, and then all good to go!! It is a fairly easy process but it does take quite a long time to get everything sorted, and from what i hear there are usually 2 rounds of interviews for this program, one in March and the other in November.

Jobs in the UK pavillion: You would either be working in F&B or Merch,F&B would be waiting tables or serving in the bar, merch would be working at one of the shops in the UK (think thats right anyway!!!) you will be asked which you would prefer to work in during the interview process but not everyone gets into the one they want. As a general rule there are more positions available in F&B,and this is a tipped position so you tend to take more money home each week than those in merch.

Accomodation is at The Commons, there is more info on this site - try the "living experience" section from what i hear its ok - im not expecting 4 star luxury or anything but im sure it will be clean and comfortable!! Il let you know when i get there!!!

i suggest that you email you CV and a quick cover letter to the team at yummy jobs, they will get back to you and tell you everything you need!!!

    Hope it all goes well!!

    Kerry
