and do we get dishwashers? haha

I was wondering the same thing. I know a lot of people ask for 1 or 2 bedroom apartments, so I guess you could ask for the opposite. I want lots of flatmates too. Dunno about dishwashers... I hope so Haha x

my girlfriend gave me a complete rundown as soon as she arrived.... you are placed into a flat with availability for starters. so it can be anything from a one bedroom to a 4 bedroom. but if you are not happy in your flat you can request to move. this will cost you $50 and you can ONLY move around in the complex you live in. so if you live in patterson square for instance you cannot request to move to a apartment in the commons. sounds like most flats have dishwashers. and flats in the commons also have washing mashines. if you know anyone who is already there, you can ask them to request a flat for you. that way you are more likely to live in the same complex with them.

    hope this helps!!!

I lived in Vista for my J1A prog last year, so i can't talk for the Commons and CRP. But with the other complexes...We did get a pref i think - as it is obviously more money to live with fewer people, but like you say, space availablity takes priority. All the people on our program were put in Vista and majority in 3bed apts.

I moved apts after a month as my roomate didn't wash - and she was English! Also my friend still hadn't got a roomie so i requested to move in with her (love you Alex!!). It was $50, as mentioned already, and i got the choice to 1) stay within Vista and get a choice of 4 or 6 person (ie how much i want to pay) apt, or 2) change complexes (NOT into the commons tho) with no guarantee of saying at the lower price (Patterson wasn't open then so don't know if that's changed anything).
In the end i was living with 2 Brits, 2 Brazilians and a Mexican girl, all so lovely (except the other Brit - total weirdo :p) and it was great because there was always someone around.
We had a dishwasher but noone used it because they didn't think it worked! They were old tho...

hope that helps and if i have forgotten a vital detail i'm sure someone will correct me!!

Also worth noting there's a minimum time limit on moving appartements - I think its 3 weeks, others can correct me if I'm wrong. You may be able to move earlier without the fee if there's a major issue with your housing situation, but it would have to be quite a serious problem, and the avialiablility of various appartements at the time of your request will limit your moving options. Also worth mentioning, you may get additional housemates as some people in your appartement leave, or you yourself may be forced to move (fee free) if your appartement is getting too empty, so they can use it for a fresh batch of new arrivals.

Ewan doth speaketh the truth...Commons apartments do indeed have a washing machine & a dryer. Although they are top-loading things that look like they came from the 50's! I need to get one of my housemates to give me a lesson in how to use them!

We didn't get any choice in where we live, I got 915 which is awesome as it's pretty damn close to the bus stop/club house.

Hope your settling in OK Mate. Are Disney pushy to get you into training and working or have you got time to breath/ go shopping ect before the training?

I checked in at about midday yesterday so I had plenty of time for shopping etc. The rest of the crew checked in about 8, we dumped their stuff & went straight to Walmart. So there is time but it was about 11 by the time we got back to the apartments.

We have a 9 start today (I've been up since about 7 as I'm all excited!) & we go on until about 2:30. Then we only have about 3 hours from midday tomorrow so we will have loads of time after we're done today. We have the day off on friday (park anybody?) then Traditions on saturday which we have to be at the bus stop for 6:30 until 4. So that's our first real day of work!

Is there any chance that you might get put with people that you arrive with? Or is it just totally random, like wherever they have space?

Another apartment question for you all... what size is the bed we get?? Do we need to bring our own sheets and blanket for them?

Single bed i'm afraid :( You get a mattress and thats it, so most people haul arse down to the wonder that is Walmart the first night an get everything. From what i remember my single (twin if we're going american) sheets were a little too big but unless you're Martha Stewart it won't matter!

And ps you probably won't be living with your friends, although they tend to group people that arrive together/a day or so, so you might get lucky. I wonder whether they actually group apts to make them a diverse mix...??? :D

I'm pretty sure you have to bring or buy everything. youre room is empty except for the bed and matress, a bedside table and a dresser i'm pretty sure...
Somewhere on here it said you have to buy toilet paper, and if you have to buy that then i'm sure you have to buy everything else a bathroom would consist of.

I'm glad theres a dishwasher! hopefully i'll get in the commons and not have to pay for laundry, i've already lost too much money to my uni's laundry machines.
