I was aware form reading on here somewhere that you can live in your own apartment if you want, but they take the rent off you still for the commons etc, as you've no choice in this. So it's a waste of money to get your own place if you're paying to live on site so to speak.

Not too sure though so maybe someone else can confirm?

Hi. KristyLouise is right... they still take rent off your paycheck, even if you don't live in the commons. But why live outside? Commons is part of the experience, and I bet you'd be missing out on a LOT of fun if you lived outside!!!

thing is if u were living outside the commons u would have the hassle of travel to work each day instead of the disney bus, and u wouldnt get to know all the people u'l be working with etc..

thanks hunni, im sooooooooo excited and nervous ;D

  8. yeah kind of one of the main points of the program is to make lifelong friends from around the world....don't do yourself out of that experence.

Why is it you are thinking of getting your own place?

    Hey ,

I donno I thought it would be a good idea seeing as you dont get much space , im nervous and i thought that would be more nerveracking .but as people have told me i cant do it unless i want to pay for both the commons and my own apt. im super excited to be getting this opportunity and so grateful i just am someone who injoys space. thats all i still think i'll make lifelong friends i :)

Yeah and the space issue isn't a real problem as I've read that there is quite a lot of space to put your stuff! hehe I don't have hardly any stuff really coz I have the small bedroom at home and most of it is filled with uni books and folders that I wont need anymore soon!!!! :)

I loved living in halls when I was in my first year at uni and have made some terrific friends out of it, so looking forwrd to it even more if I get to come over (keeping my fingers crossed)

    hey, stay at the commons!!!!!!!!!!

I have the smallest apartment eva its only a 1 bed with 2 of us here but I manage fine we are not in much together anyway coz 1 of us is at work most of the time.
You will make so many friends here you will be in other ppls apartment all the time, there is so much to do, go have a few drinks in a mates apartment have a party somewhere, watch dvd with mates then you can just walk home not have to get taxi home or anything. Also the bus to work is so easy from the commons so it would be a prob if you don't live here and don't have a car. just stay at the commons you will be fine.

Hi just to let you know if you do not live in the commons your visa is invoked, part of your q1 visa is that you will stay at the commons, there have been people fired while i have been here for not living here, they got caught as they had nothing in their apartments and got terminated the next day, but sneaky way around it, my old roommate never ever stayed at our apartment he had his stuff at our apartment i.e bedding clothes, but he only was in the apartment for 2 days a month if that, but be carefull, it's not worth losing your job over!

The Commons is THE best part of the whole experience. I know many a person who HATED the work and would probably have left if it hadn't been for the Commons. Your experience would not be nearly as memorable if it weren't for all of the crazy Commons happenings and I think that you may start to feel a little left out at work while everyone is recapping which random bush they passed out in, or about who was spotted walking past at 7am still wearing their Canadian Girls shirt!

Not really. When you arrive they already have you placed in an apartment. You've probably heard all this before, but there are 2-, 4-, 6- and 8-person apartments (and some random 3-persons in Building 28 if I remember right). If you wanted to later you could move to another apartment provided there's space but they will charge you a fee ($50-$60, i think). The living areas in the apartments are all roughly the same size (Unfortunately so is the fridge!) but if you're looking to meet people from random parts of the world hope for an apartment with lots of people! I lived in a 6-person and looking back I wouldn't have had it any other way!
