I was wondering if I could talk to someone who has gone through the International Program about the advantages as well as disadvantages of the program. It seems like a dream come true, but I'd rather talk to someone who has been there before I get my hopes up. I'm from Canada so I'd be better to talk to someone from here, but help from anyone would be greatly appriciated.

    hi erin!
well, i'm not from canada, but i'm gonna start anyway! :D
i've been there 4 years ago and i really had the time of my life!! you get to meet so many great people from all over the world, you'll definetely get more independent and you'll just have an awesome time! i don't know what you wanna do professionally later, but you also gain work experience with one of the worlds largest entertainment companies, but the name disney will always look good on your cv! you can take classes (sth most people plan to do, but never actually start! haha), you get time to travel, ...
the only real disadvantage i could see was that a lot of people i met there kinda lost conact to their friends back home...their realtionship wasn't the same anymore when they came back cause you've just been through a totally different experience!
if you wanna know more or have specific questions...just ask! :)

    later! flavour xoxo

It is hard work and only 2 days of each week. but you can swap with othors if youre going away or wanna take a little vacation.
The life on Commons is fun as well. alot of partying.

Everyting over there is strickt with rules for everything. But is just an adjustment and you will survive.

Good luck and have fun. I did.

Thanks to everyone who has replied! I don't really think there are any specific questions at the moment, but I'm sure I'll have some.
And I'm from Nova Scotia Shan.

Actully I do have a couple of questions......
It says in the interview part that they want people with leadership skills, what exacally would qualify as a leadership skill and how poorly would it probably look if you didn't have any?
The biggest problem I'm going to have is the fact that I don't turn 18 until September 11 and I wanted to be back by the first of the next September to go to University. Do you stay for exacally a year or might I be able to get back home in time to inroll in university in September?
I think that's all for now.

Hi Erin... I am from Canada, but I haven't done the program, yet. I leave June 21st.... YAY!!!

Your questions had to do with the application process, so I can answer those. As for leadership skills, it can really be anything. It can be as simple as something you've done in a job... like training someone new. I put my experience in 2 clubs that I've did work for in high school and college. I wouldn't worry too much about it though. Disney is really more interested in your personality.

Now, onto the question about dates. The contract is just slightly less than 1 year. I start on June 21/05 and work until June 16/06. You don't get to pick your start date. You can let them know when you're available to leave, but that's about it. It all depends on when they are hiring for. I'm pretty sure you're too late to be looking to leave this September. The interviews were done in March for those leaving Sept-Dec. Disney does interviews in the Fall out west in Calgary and Vancouver. Mine was last October. The spring interviews are in Halifax, Montreal and Toronto. The application is not a short process. I applied in July, heard back in August and had my telephone interview at the end of August, went to the interview in October and found out about being hired in November. Following all that is the 7 mth wait to actually leave.

The other problem is that you're only 17. You need to be 18 in order to apply. You'd have to wait until September to apply, hope you can still get into the interview out west (you'd have to pay to fly there yourself) and then hope to get a position that someone dropped out of for December. Otherwise, you'd probably be looking at a start date somewhere between March-June 2006.

    Hope that helps...
    Sandra :)
