You are very smart to drive down!!! You'll get a ton of money in relo!! I got the $400 I paid for my flight back, but a girl that drove and arrived the same day as me got over $700 bucks and it only cost her like $150!!!! You'll love your final paycheck.

You can always get someone to drive down with you and then catch a cheap flight home. Your relo should be enough that you could give some money back to your driving partner when you finish your contract. Having a car in Florida is great, but be sure that you're prepared to switch the plates and your license and make sure that your Canadian Insurance company would still cover you. Mine wouldn't so I couldn't take my car.

I'd love to take my car down south, but i'm not sure my car will make the trip ;)  I'd hate to have to depend on the bus system to get everywhere after so many years of just hopping into my car whenever i wanted to.  Does anyone know how much it would cost Canadian?

I'm having the same worry.... having been able to just jump in a car and drvie whenever. As much as I would love to drive down, I won't have a car to take. My sister and I have basically shared a car over the last few years and it's staying here with her.

With that said, I don't think it'll take too long to get used to not having a car. Disney has been doing this for years, so I assume that the the buses aren't that bad. I know the Disney transportation between parks and resorts for guests is great. If I need to, I have no problem renting a car for a trip somewhere. And, of course.... we're bound to make at least one friend with a car. ;)

Well Sheena, I am planning to go a bit early and make a little trip of it and that way someone will want to come with me and then fly home. It takes about 30 hours from here so I am not sure where I would stop for sure yet - depends on who comes with me - when we leave etc...
I checked into the insurance thing and my company (State Farm) said it is no problem - just to let them know before I go and they will do a code change which basically just makes it official that I am out of the country for a specified time and that I am covered (doesn't even cost anything) but state farm is in the US as well so it is no problem for them but I am sure not all insurance companies are the same. I am wondering about plates - hopefully I can just keep my New Brunswick ones - does anyone know if we really need to switch them?

I am going to answer my own question here- I found this in the common questions section of this site - not sure of how accurate this is or up-to-date but this is what I found  :

If I bring my car, do I need to get Florida license plates/tags?

I didn't, but some people choose to. The advantage is that it is the law (you can only drive up to six months on out-of-state plates), and that Disney can sometimes be picky about these things. In fact, the law allows you to retain your plates for longer than six months if you are registered in an educational program (such as attending college or participating in a cultural exchange such as this!). If you do this and keep your own plates, then you must also have a valid drivers license and insurance from that province/state (i.e. don't show the cops your Florida license if you are driving a car with B.C. plates). It's not the big deal it sounds like, but bear in mind if you do decide to register your car in Florida it will cost you at least 6% of the value of your car (this could be over $1000USD). Plus you will need to change it back when you return home.

    Hey Katie,

Where abouts Winnipeg are you from?  I live just off Ness.  My friend and I were at the interviews in Toronto and were both hired for merch/attractions although she starts in September and I start in December.  It's so exciting that alot of Winnipegers are going!  Anyway, i want to drive down too, but haven't exactly made my decision yet!  Gotta see if my car will survive the trip ;)
