Anyone concerned about an aspect of working the CRP

Had a thought. We are pretty much sorted when it comes to getting to Florida but is anyone concerned about the job itself?

I think to start of it will pretty easy for us doing the UK Food and Beverage. We show a smile, chat with the guests and serve some fish and chips. Afterwards though when we go to the Rose and crown we do get a lot more responsibility and guest interaction becomes much more important to perform well and provide a great service.

Like everyone else also doing the job, i want to provide the very best service i can. I will try my best to bend backwards to make sure i guest is happy and that's the most important thing.

One thing Disney Restaurants pride themselves on is being able to cater for people with allergies, diabetics, provide glucose free options ect so i plan to do a lot of research and swatting up on these as there's no way i want to potentially give people wrong info about their food.

Have to say that i'm a bit worried about having to carry plates on those massive trays. Balancing is not my best talent ;D and the last thing i want to do is trip over and drop everything.

Does anyone know how many staff they have on a single shift and how many tables each server is responsible for?

Any of you guys concerned about any of the work?

I've worked in the restaurant business since I left school so to be honest, I'll be able to do it with my eyes closed. I'm looking forward to being able to adapt the stuff I've learnt over the years to a new environment though.

To be honest man, food service isn't rocket science. You can teach a chimp to take an order but you can't teach people skills. You either got them or you don't. But if you already been offered a position you obviously don't have that problem!

my position is park greeter in the animal kingdom park. so thank goodness i dont have to carry any plates!!! ;D

what i heard is that you get trained for absolutely everything, so you wont go into the job blind. as well you will be training with someone for the first 2 weeks or something. so im sure you will get everything down before you need to do it on your own. i think the jobs themselves arent that demanding. what might be demanding are the long hours in high season and the occasional grumpy guest :) also you can work your way up in ranks at most jobs i.e work at other restaurants in your pavillion etc. bear in mind you will be able to do this within a year. so the jobs cant be THAT hectic. (in the real world when you are not a CRP it takes years to work your way up to more responsibility)

but other than that i have not heard about any work related complaints from my buds who are there already

I used to work in restaurants and cafes from being 16, and to be honest i loved it, i loved that if your busy you get stuck in and the day just flies. Just be yourself chatting to people they are, after all just like you and me.

I can't wait to get back doing it again, yeah sometimes its hard work and your on your feet all day long but it's great excersise and it'll make such a change from me being sat at a desk from 9-5.

I wasn't too great on the customer service aspect of things back then but since i've had a lot of experience with customers and have got nvq level 2 and 3 in it. So can't be all bad!

don't worry about it love, you'll soon get to grips, theres loads of courses and stuff you can sign up to as well when you first start, If you do things such as the wine course you can move onto serving it and such quicker, knowing which ones to recommend etc.

I think it's really the plate carrying that i'm worried about. I've worked in a michelin star french restaurant for the last 6 years but we were pretty relaxed on how each member of staff did their job. If staff carried plates on a tray then that's up to them. I preferred to carry things with just my hands rather than a tray because it reduces the chances of dropping the lot :D

It's going to be a case of learning to balance plates and drinks.

The reason why i asked about how many tables are you assigned to is that i love talking to customers. I would spend ages doing it where i used to work as people always have great stories to tell but if your given 4 or 5 tables to look after then your never going to have time to spend with the guests and to me is as important as the food your serving.

My cousin did this job in 2003, he is always telling me that you have to be the nicest, most willing to do anything for the customer ever but the more customers you get in and out as fast as possible the more tips you get.

    So...

Get 'em in, get 'em out, but be amazing. Bobs yer uncle.

I'm nervous, as I am with any new job/experience. But we get good training from what I've heard :)

We will have a few months before the Restaurant so i guess that's more than enough time to get settled in and earning before hitting the more challenging work.

I have also experience for years, but I still drop glasses and plates and confuse orders. :D
    I wasn't fired yet though. So I can't be the worst. :D

To be honest, I'm VERY excited and nervous but I hope everything will work out !

I am very much looking forward to the prospect of delivering the most excellent customer service and the guest interaction is a area I have a passion for! So roll on rose and crown, orders, waiting on, replenishing tables.....all sounds great fun. We are going to be a huge part of our guests holidays/vacations...and I am just so delighted I am going to be a part of it.

I think the job losses are the US cast members, I don't think the UK Pavilion is affected as Disney only hire a small number of people each year

    Hey Hey Boys and girls..

I cant balance thing at all!
Two drinks on a tray.. and its on the floor <--- that was what i was like the first couple of weeks at work
i used to get upset and stressed that i would never do anything right
but then my manager (the nice one) said "at the end of the day Michelle.. its just burgers and fries.. theres no need to cry over spilt coke"

    And i took that in
and i just fly by these days :)

I wouldnt worry about it too much
im sure people are bound to have accidents in thier first few weeks
but you just get used to it
