Hi just wondering if there are any uk people over there just now? Im starting to have second thoughts about applying for the program. Im just wondering what its like? Ive heard a few horror stories and im a bit worried its a bit cliquey over there. I dont want to apply and get in and move for a year only to find its a bit cliquey and hard to make friends? Any advice would be appreicated.

aww mate, speaking from past experience DO NOT worry about this at all!!!! there is so much more to this than lads and lasses!
Dont get me wrong, going out on a monday night was great fun and everyone is made to feel welcome and its not just a selet few that go by any means!
what "horror story's" have you heard?! being there is just like working with a massive group of friends! of course there will be some people that you get on really well with and spend most of your free time with and there will also be others that you dont reallly know that well and only see at work but noone is guna make you feel unwelcome or anything! and remember that everyone leaves after a year anyway, so anyone thats been there for a long time when you arrive will soon be leaving anyway!
Sometimes over there it does feel a little like high school - the people who are there when you arrive will sometimes seem like "the big kids" as they know what they are doing, they will all be very relaxed and stuff and for new people arriving that can sometimes seem a bit intimidating but just go over and try and get to know everyone and you will soon fit it! honest!
with regards to lads and lasses dont worry, yes there is (a lot!) of drinking involved in both but if you dont want to drink then you simply dont - its not like your guna be bullied into doing anything you dont want to!
I would seriously think about it, please dont give up on your application over this!!!!

hey thanks um i didnt mean just the lads and lasses just meant the uk people in general, im just realising it imay be a bit cliquey in terms of groups of people applying togther, i dont know i can just see myself working like mad to save up, going through all the procedure, getting in then being miserable if i dint fit in. I talk away to everyone but just wondering if im going to fit in. I mean this is all hypothetical as i may not get in, but a few people have seen my c.v. and/or covering letter or have heard about what exp i have and they think i have a good chance. I would not mind being over there away from friends and family, would only be a prob if i was a bit excluded lol.

i see what your saying but really i wouldnt worry about it, i assume by people applying together you mean people on this forum?! dont worry about it, disney/yummy jobs have no policy at all of putting people together in arrival groups or anything so if you get a job you go when your told pretty much which means there isnt really any groups of friends going out at the same time - other than those that get to know eachother via online forums such as this and thats a million miles away from going over with someone you know from "real life"
its not cliquey really, yeah of course there are groups of people who tend to hang around together but you get that in any situation! thats just life! but no, its not like being back at school and having people exclude you or anything, that would be horrible!
there are people over there from all kinds of backgrounds with all different types of interest's and things like that, its a total mixed bag which is what makes it work, you will be fine! everyone is!!!!!!!!!

with regard to your application - i hope you do get a place on the program and im sure your CV etc is really good but just dont get too down if you dont get a place this time, this whole application process is i would say 90% luck of the draw when it comes down to it, theres really doesnt seem to be any real logic to the way they choose people! so just APPLY and take the rest as it comes ;D

thanks i think i may be concerned over nothing. Nah it wasnt the forums it was something i had heard a few times lol.

I hope i dont sound like i think im getting in, i just like to think ahead so im prepared if i did get in. But yeah i dont expect to, i know its really seems to be luck of the draw and some talent lol.

yeah i know what you mean dont worry! its just that as a former cast member i know that when i was there they have some people working there are you kinda wonder how on earth these people got through the interview?! and then theres people who i know have applied and would be amazing and yet dont even get a phone interview?! its all a bit bizzare!!!!! like i said, i dont think there is really any set "formula" or any real set criteria that they are looking for, i think its all about luck, and how well your CV etc come across to the person that first reads it...... it really could go either way for every applicant, regardless of experience/personality/ambition etc etc! everyone is in with a shot!!!

put it this way. you will arrive. meet everyone at your throw in and probably spend the first week or so hanging out with your arraival group just because most of your week will be taken up with things that you and your group will have to do together. you will likely form some really good friends in that group who will stay friend for the year(and beyond).

week 2-you start working, start going for food with others after work, finding out about parties etc that you didnt know about because you didnt have much time to see otehrs in your first week, lads, etc etc and by week three, not only will you feel like you have been there 6 months(seriously-its wierd but it will happen), but you will have plenty of friends.

there is a clique-but its ONE big clique, and you will become part of it weather you mean to or not LOL

Also, if you are worried about being pressured into things like drinking etc, remember-not only do you not have to drink, but it doesnt stop you going to all these events-i sometimes used to go to lads and not drink anything because i didnt feel like it, or didnt want to drink until we went out after lads with all the girls etc.

Also, when you inevitably make a smaller group of closer friends, some of your most fun nights, will be a night simply sat in your apartment with a pizza and some drinks and maybe a DVD or something-its NOT all parties and boozing, dont worry about that-everyone can, and at some point does, have quiet nights in, go to the cinema, see some fireworks, just go for dinner with some friends etc etc-one of my best memroies is going to the cinema at 11 o clock at night, at universal studios, after work with 2 other friends-we didnt do anything other than buy some food and see a film, but it didnt involve a massive boozing session or anything like that.

then again, my other favourate memory was my fancy dress halloween party which was simply hillarious and heavilly alcohol based lol

I think it's natural to be concerned, especially as there are lots of contradictory posts on these forums over the years, but I think it's all down to everyone being different and having different experiences.

If you believe some of the comments from people out there or posting here, then working F&B is gruelling slave labour, working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day for the whole year with no holidays, everyone snidely bitching about the 'scuzz' customers, hating Disney and being in exclusive cliques with each other and generally being about as anti-Disney as you can get and having a miserable time.

Whereas if you believe other posts and blogs, it's one big happy family where everyone works hard with a smile on their face, gets to go to theme parks on their days off, has wicked parties, a wonderful time and looks back on it as the best year of their life with many even wanting to apply for a second term.

The two accounts really don't seem to match, so I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle and down to your attitude. Some people make the most of it, love Disney and really go for it, others don't know what they're in for, and complain the whole time. I suspect it's totally whatever you make it, and nowhere near as bad as those already on the program make out.

We won't find out for sure what it's like until we get out there so why not give it a go? You can always leave if it doesn't live up to expectations, but if we go in with the right attitude I reckon we'll all have a great time.

im not to fussed about the drinking, some nights i want to get drunk, some times i dont want to drink but i will just say to the lads, im sure theyll not be bothered that.

Yeah i plan to talk to everyone from all countries, but its a bit strange not knowing a lot of people that are applying with me, fortunately i met a few on this.

going by my own experience, people will form friendships in different groups but like anywhere it comes down to the personalities and the interests of certain people. Our geek squad all hung together and some of are still best friends now (though... I don't know WHY with some people *cough*2005CP*cough* :p :p)... but I had friends from my own arrival group as well as some that came before and some 6 months later. my best memories are all with completely different people!

You'll also maybe end up hanging out with the people who have the same day off as you. When you arrive you get allocated the days off, you don't pick them so when you are looking for stuff to do, you decide based on who is available to do stuff with.

but looking at my facebook, I've got about 100 people on there who are all friends from disney, so you may hang out with more than others, you'll all still be friends!

we excelled our self when it came to bizzare things we did for entertainment. i seem to remember a night spent drawing pictures for the wall fo apartment 1023, and watching Wall-e about 4 times (3 times more than i needed to, but another friend insisted).

    oh and PERKINS!!!!!!!

Practically daily "ill have a choclate milkshake, the mozerella cheesesticks and a chicken pot pie please"

to be followed, almost daily, half an hour later with "does anyone want my cheesesticks"
