alcohol under 21

Discussion in 'ICP Applicants Discussion' started by whereyourdreamscometrue, Apr 9, 2008.

  1. Hi guys, I know it is state law that you can't drink under the age of 21 but I am worried about if alcohol is found in your flat and being termed for it. Even if you aren't seen with it and you haven't drunk any is it true that you can still be termed for it? What are the rules covering this kinda thing? Are people generally pretty good and understanding with it?

That depends on the situation. If the owner of the alcohol confesses about owning it, it's no problem for you. If you know there's alcohol in the apartment, your best bet is to let housing know, because then they know it's not yours. Because if alcohol is found in the apartment and no one says anything, they can terminate everybody who lives in that apartment. Even if its not yours, you can get in trouble for knowing it's there and not doing anything about it.

You're not even allowed alcohol for cooking, so there shouldn't be any alcohol in the apartment at any time.

I'm under 21, and don't drink. If I get termed because some idiot that I live with decides to have alcohol in the apartment, I'd be devestated. If I found alcohol in my Wellness apartment, I'd turn them in. I want to be an Imagineer, and if you get kicked out, you're kicked out for good, for any Disney company. That's why it's important to sit down with roommates on the first day and lay out guidelines. I don't care if other people want to drink when they're under 21, but they sure as hell shouldn't be doing it in a Wellness apartment.

I agree! I don't want to mess up any chances of working with Disney again! Luckily I'm over 21, but if there's drugs or whatever, I wont tolerate that! I'm going to talk with my roomies when I arrive so we won't have any misunderstandings or anything...

  5. yeh that was what I was worried about. I'm sure not gonna drink when I'm over there and I don't want to do anything that could jeapordise my time there as I do want to go back at some point in the future - maybe on the graduate programme. If I do find any they are as sure as hell gonna be reported so that am not caught out by some idiot who decides to drink alcohol or anything just as stupid and illegal!!!

Yeah i didnt drink but my roomies did, one turned 21 whilst out there, so it was fine, but even if that happens you are not allowed drinks in your apartment and its only ten weeks its not worth the risk of never being allowed into america again.

Just as a warning. Almost everyone over there drinks, underage or overage. And underagers will be drinking in their wellness apt's. Believe me, I was one of them. Actually my whole apt drank. We were just really good with the desposing of bottles/cans.
And we didn't really binge drink either, it was just nice to have an ice cold beer after one hell of a day at work, not that we ever kept alcohol in the apt.
We actually had security enter our apt while we were drinking, but we knew they were coming so we hid everything outside before they gor the chance to see anything.
So I advise you all to be extra attentive of people who like to drink, as they WILL drink, no matter what. And report them as soon as you see them, or just tell them to quit it.
I have see to many people being terminated because of that shit.

haha, celeph, love that last line there.
yeah i'm for sure turning people in. Disney owns sooo much and you can never work for Disney again if you get termed under those conditions.
ESPN, ABC, some sports teams even! It's unthinkable that someone would risk that.

Well, there are people who don't take working there seriously... They take the job because for them it would be like a year off with a lot of partying. It's sad to say, but when I was there the last time, Norway pavilion was on the top of call ins. First just in Epcot, but then also for all the parks... We had days in the restaurant when we were just 7 servers when we were supposed to be 15 or 16...

yeah i heard stories about people selling their main gate to people, or people stealing parts of the costumes. its all good fun til you are caught deported and never allowed to return to the states again...

  11. I'm definetly up for reporting people as well, I'm not jeopordisig this chance and any chace of working for them again in the future.

depends if you break the law or not, drinking underage and drug use and such would get you termed and in trouble, but like there are other things you can get termed for but no trouble with the usa

There has been a rare occasion where terminated people have been employed again. I guess it depends on the reason why you're termed... And yeah if you get termed for breaking the law, you might not get into the states again...

Honestly, I wouldn't want to do ANYTHING to screw up my chances of never being able to work in the united states.

Some people don't see the reason behind laws.

I drink a little, but in the states I'll be underage so if i see alcohol in my apartment and my roomates don't get rid of it I have no problem speaking up and reporting it. it may seem mean but I am not getting termed from disney!

I had a really hard time with some collegestudents who wanted to buy beer during spring break without an ID there. I refused them time after time and in the end I explained every detail of why I didn't want to sell them alcohol: That if I was caught alcohol to them and I was caught doing it, I wouldn't just loose my job and be sent back to Norway, but I would never be allowed to enter the states again. Even then they didn't understand.

  18. Sometimes it isn't that people don't or can't understand, they are just stupid enough to ignore it making others take the fall for something that they know is illegal. I will be reporting anyone if I see alcohol in the flat. I understand what you are saying Wintersun, it may seem mean to report someone you see as a friend but in these circumstances you come first and then your friends and flat mates. I won't be drinking over there - I really don't want to give them any reason to do so. You can party hard without alcohol and there will be others who will be in the same boat as us so I don't think it will be that dificult not to drink anyway not as hard as if everyone was over 21 and stuff.

I don't think it's mean to report them. Just give them a fair warning and let them know that if that ever happens you won't hesitate to report them, that way it's up to them what they'll do. If they choose to do it anyway, they know the consequences ;)
