Hey I am thinking of applying for the international program in Florida and was wondering what the process is e.g interview, medical, visa process. I want to work out there at the beginning of 2006 so when would I need to apply? Are the interviews held in London? Can you get any office work out there as I am currently working in HR? Any advice would be very welcome, Thanks for the help. Olly ??? ???
Hey Olly Well if you're aiming on early 2006, the interviews taking place november 2005, cover the period of march - june 2006. the process is, you send your cv to yummy jobs, if you are then successful they will schedule a telephone interview with yourself, and again if you're successful through that, you will get through to the face to face interviews. These are not necessarily always in london. The february interviews tend to be, with two interview dates scheduled for the end of the month. But last november there were four interview dates london, belfast, glasgow and cardiff. The visa process begins once you're accepted most of which yummy jobs themselves sort until you go for your interview a month or so prior to departure. It's a Q1 visa as its specific to the cultural program offered by disney As for office work in HR particularly unless you got offered a job with a company before obtaining a working visa i don't know how easy it would be to get in. anything else you want to know, ask away i'll try help as best i can Sara xxx
hey Olly, welcome to the boards!! Just wanted to add to what Sara said and let you know the appilcation process can be long and involves loads of stressful waiting!!! Also, although the face-to-face interview is in Novmeber Id get your application in early rather than waiting until later in the year!! Im assuming youre from the Uk and the only job options for the IP are food and bev and merchandising so on this programme there wont be any opportunity for any office based work - the visa wont allow it!! Think you should def go fot it!!! Good luck, Michelle xx
thanks for addin chelle, how did i forget about the stressful wait! to give u an idea olly i applied/sent my cv off to yummy jobs on april 1st 2004, phone interview early may 2004 and accepted to the interviews by the end of that month, and had to wait until 12th november for the face to face, and then a further 4 weeks to hear i got in. so yeah as michelle it is a lengthy process and would defo send your cv off now, so you're top of the pile! everyone on here is very supportive as you'll find out Sara xx
Hi Many thanks for the advice, it s really helpful. I really hope I can get a job in Florida for a year, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I bet you are really looking forward to it!! What sort of questions do they ask during the telephone interview? Do you know how many people from the UK they usually recruit? Olly
No problems Olly, anythin we can do to help you out is a pleasure! telephone interview wise they ask u some questions you would expect like why do you want to work for disney? what qualities can you bring to the role? also give you some role play type situations like if you were faced with a customer complaining over a cold meal what would you do? type scenarios. you also get asked questions on how you would explain your home town to americans and if there's anything specific its famous for. u also get asked about how u would feel living/sharing a room with people from other countries. i'm not sure on the uk recruitment totals. i duno if michelle knows though Sara xx
I was trying to figure out how many they recruit actually!! I think they take about 12-15 in a regular arrival group (although theres more on yours sara!!!). They have two arrival groups in each of march, june sep and dec i think so that about 100-130 people a year so i guess its about 50-65 from the Nov interviews and the same from the Feb. Did that make any sense at all!?!?!? I cant remember how many were at the interviews in November. Think we worked out there was about 45-50 with us in London plus the interviews in scotland wales and NI - not sure what percentage of interviewees that is that get jobs!! I hope you can devipher that Olly - reading it back Im getting confused and I just wrote it!!!! Michelle xx
lol i understood that chelle. i guess my arrival group may have 19 in cos theres less in the 14th june arrivals, so it may even out to around 30 in total for june. yeah there were 40ish at our interviews in november i think. so yeah what u said seems to make sense, 2 me anyway chelle lol xxx
Thanks for the info im sure it will come in really handy, especially the questions on the phone. I come from Blackpool so it wont be difficult to name something famous from my home town!! I take it you will both be working in Epcot? I actually go on holiday in Florida so it would be good to meet you when you are there to see how it is going. I have actually sent my cv to yummjobs and they told me to send it back in April as I want to work there at the beginning of 2006, so looks like I will have to wait a while until there is any progression!!
oh right, i'd get it ready to get to them for 1st april then olly, thats when i sent mine to jason last year. aww wow, when you off to florida? yeah we both workin in f&b at uk pavillion in epcot, michelle starts 15th march and i go out 21st june. can't wait! would go earlier if it wasn't for uni/exams! glad we could b of help. anything else u wana know feel free to contact me or chelle xxx
Thats cool Olly -at least you know the situation now!! In a couple of months you can send it back and get the process properly started!! When you out in Florida? You should def drop by the UK pavillion and say hi!!! Michelle xx
Hey- Those stats sound quite good- a 50%-75% chance of getting in if you go to the interviews (assuming there are only the 2 london interviews in this batch). Considering i'm about to go on the first stage of a recruitment process for a graduate employer where the chances of my getting in at this stage are 1%!!!
Okay, reading about how long people had to wait and things I feel quite lucky how fast my application moved. I sent my CV to yummy in January, got a phone interview a week or so later (Jan 19th) and then have to wait until the face to face - I guess they must have rushed it to get me in to this lot of interviews. Does anyone know how long it is after the interview that we find out if we've been successful or not?
yeah you're very lucky that it went like that for u. rob seems to have had the same luck as he got through to the feb 28th interview in the last couple of days! with the waitin, we were told at november 12th interviews it could take upto 10th december before we heard, and if by then we hadn't heard to contact them. which was 4 weeks exactly to the day since our interview date, so if thats the same with the feb interviews, will be end of march. but u have to fill your details onto a yellow card at the interview. and inside the card it has you are being considered or aren't being considered for a position, u receive this card around 2 weeks after the interview through the post. it's so nerve wrecking as you'll all know in a few weeks time! xxx
Good Luck everyone - i really hope u all get thru! I didnt have too long to wait either Zanitta - had my face 2 face two months after first applying. Sara - remember the so we wait threads! and all the panics we all got whenever our phones rang! xxx
it was ages 4 me marie - 8 months between first applyin n gettin the job! yeah haha, yellow card arrival topic and the and so we wait thread lol. crazy times! xxx
Looks like there are a lot of people in the same boat, I actually go to Florida for three weeks at the beginning of October this year. I was wondering whether it might be worth letting yummyjobs know then I might be able to meet someone out there about the work. Just can't wait to get things movin, but I suppose I will just have to wait for the time being!! Anyone looking at applying to start work beginning of 2006 please get in touch it would be good to speak with people who are in the same boat. Olly
