hey guys, some of you might remember me from being on here a few months ago. This message is for all the UK September newbies and well any new ppl who are going to food and beverage. I was terminated last Thursday. I was in the chipshop, talking to two english guests, we were laughing and joking around, they said that the prices are a rip off and I sed as a joke, welcome to the rip off chippy, and a manager called david heard me say it. he's only been here like a month. he then and spoke to another manager, Scott, and he sed to take my id and suspend me. I had a meeting with the UK and Canadian general manager, Megan on thursday and she terminated me.

Since my arrival group got here, theres been rumours going around that there's too many people and they look to terminate people for stupid and pathetic reasons. The whole management is corrupt in the UK pavillion. I don't know about anywhere else but it is so unorganised, its seriously like a circus. Theres loads of ppl coming out in September and they'll be looking to terminate new ppl too. It is such a shame, ppl dream of coming here then their dreams are shattered.

Seriously guys, watch out for the manager Scott, he acts like he really cares about you, he becomes your friend then he backstabs you, says things about you behind peoples backs and tries to srew you over. I'm not saying this because of whats happened to me, it's happend to people in the past and people who are still here.

David the new manager follows Scott and copies his bad habbits, watch out for him too. i bet he feels on top of the world knowing that he's terminated someone in his first month.

The only decent manager is Rob. He is professional, knows where to draw the line from being friendly to you and being your manager. He's stuck up for me a few times. I respect him for things he tried to do for me.

The work is hard, you are expected to do a lot for nothing. The thing that keeps you here is the people. I've made so many amazing friends here. That's what has upset me the most. All the UK lads and lasses are 110% behind you. They stick up for you, they help you out. They're like your family out here. They all mean so much to me.

I'm staying here in Florida for another week and a half, I'm sorting out things to do with immigration and other jobs. They may have screwed me over but they haven't knocked me down. the day i got terminated I started looking at other jobs, and I've got a couple of auditions lined up in the next week. I'm staying at a friends house at the moment, he's a bartender at bennigans, all you UK people will get to know bennigans very very well when you're here! Look after the barmen, and they'll look after you. You'll know what I mean when you get here. I might be here for when the 1st arrivals get here. So I might see some of you! But no matter what, I'm coming back to Florida because whats there in the UK really?! and i want to be with the superb friends I've made here.

So I just thought I'd let you know a bit about the UK pavillion. I don't mean it in a way to put anyone off, I'm just sharing the experiance I've had! Good luck with it all guys!!!!!

I thought you weren't allowed to do that under the terms of the visa? or is that what you were sorting out with immigration?

I',m sorry your experience was a bad one and am a little concerned to hear what's going on. Why have they taken on so many people (and about to get so many more) if they're already overstaffed? makes no sense. Maybe this is just the transition period now that the rush of summer is ending, I guess we'll find out (though I hope it's sorted by the time I get there!)

Good luck finding something else, let us know how it goes.

You have to be out of the commons within 24 hours of termination and you can stay up to 2 weeks in the country after. Theres already loads and loads of people who work here, yes a few left last week because their time was up but still, i heard theres at least 20 new people in sept for f and b. that is loads!!!!!!!! I just hope that all you guys don't get messed around. it is a real shame.

    Hey Guys!

Why do Disney tend to find themselves overstaffed?  Well if you think about how long it takes to arrange your VISA and how they cannot recruit so quickly if lots of people were to leave.  In their eyes its best to be overstaffed rather than understaffed as being understaffed would cause poor service and that would NEVER do.  During your first 3 months you can be terminated for pretty much anything but after that its more difficult for them to terminate you.  So if you think how the arrivals happen approx every 3 months with 2 groups during that month, its easy to see how Disney have covered all angles.  Sadly a lot of the jobs in the UK pavilion are not taxing and since a lot of people want to work for Disney those positions can be easily replaced.

I think its good for all you guys to have a heads up and know some of the bad stuff and what to watch out for but dont let it scare you!  Its a great place to be just for all the amazing people you meet and I am not just talking about cast members.  You will get to know a lot of the guests and even get some contact details for trips to their home towns.  I have already been offered a tour of Chicago whenever I visit and even details of a few jobs in New York City if I decide I want to stay in America.

I am really looking forward to meeting all you newbies on your "throw in's" during September and I hope I finally get a son or daughter!!  He he he he he he!

i was a little scared things would be this way....us newbies just have to keep our heads down and stay outta trouble...

@dan...its so terrible that companies end up this way. In most jobs you would perhaps have had a verbal warning for what you said or even nothing. It takes a few more serious things to get into termination. Have you looked at the legal stuff about them terminating you? If like me you've put off getting a career to go to Disney? I applied in May 2004 for this job and im still not there yet (i go 6th september) I've known since february that i would be going out in Sept. Thats 7 months of not getting a proper job, living more in debt and working parttime. Did you do that? Im sure something legal has to be said about your termination. Id hate to get terminated after waiting around for months for disney...look into things mate.

Job suggestion for you from me : OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE - theres 6 in the UK and i work at one part time here. Its wicked. Ive got the best friends in the world and they often do transfers to USA stores...Apparently there loads in Florida (as im sure youre aware) and I know they take UK people. So try get a job there. Itd be wicked :)

I'll be over next week so would be cool 2 say hey if youre still over in Florida. Drop me a line... :)

    Good Luck dude....

    Amy,

Do not worry!  Its not as though managers are always around to hear what you are saying but you will find yourself adapting to the Disney ways.

        Chill

On the plus side for us going out, the lull where they don't need so many staff will be interrupted with the halloween activities will be starting soon, and the things for christmas and new year (where I assume it will be all hands on deck), so it may not be quite so bad.
